My 2 cents on "girlboss". The idea on its own isn't bad or "cringe". However, in some corners, it was used to negatively compare women/girl characters to other ones. Like if they weren't kicking ass and taking names, then they were sexist characters or whatever, and that was all so silly.

To expand on this, personally, it really does feel like - starting in 2022 - it all starts to go backwards. For those of us who are trying to get through the present as it actually is and not what we want it to be. The last three years of my life have just been so rough.
Throughout lockdown and into early 2021, when vaccines started getting out for all the age groups, I wanted the future. Something that did not look like 2019 at all, especially when we saw companies embracing work-from-home and other measures that HELPED people. But tons of Americans didn't, I guess

In 2016 people were *bored*. The overwhelming majority of Trump's support came from gutter racists and misogynists for sure, but there very much was an apathetic slice of young well-to-do white people who figured Obama style politics would reign forever, and Trump at least punctured their ennui.

"Ironically" liking Trump became so popular in certain left circles overnight because it was seen as a harmless way to complain about President Hillary, which was 110% assured. People rooted for him like you would casually root for the villain in a movie. There's no stakes, you know they won't win.
It's hard to imagine now but so many people in 2016 believed Hillary Clinton's victory was a foregone conclusion. "Trump might actually win" was treated as something only a nutjob would say. All political analysis took for granted that she was basically President already, the election was formality.
