Amazing and apt parable on why “trying to find common ground” with today’s GOP or trying to persuade so-called independent voters is the wrong wrong wrong strategy 👇🏽
On the topic of “our” duty to persuade abusers, a tale:

——

THE FINGER-TAKER’S SON

Whenever the king became displeased with one of his subjects, he would send out his soldiers, and before long the offender would find themselves in the basement of the king’s finger-taker.
Apparently he's really saying "liberals need to befriend conservatives for the greater good" which is so pundit brained I can't even

The immigration “issue” was always a scam. One used generation after generation. Focus on a real or imagined foreign group of people. Blame them for the population’s problems. While they are distracted, steal power.

And generation after generation “moderate” people validate this scam.

1984 is over-cited, but nothing fits the government and its supporters blatantly lying about ICE’s murder of Renee Good when video from multiple angles show she posed no threat than “the Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

There is, IMHO, probable cause to arrest the officer for attempted homicide or homicide for the shots after the first. And, unless other facts are discovered, there is enough to prove the defendant guilty. 9/

Can you accept - even w/o agreeing with all our positions - that Black people know profound truths about this country that are not on Schoolhouse Rock?

Now that the tactics they’ve used in our communities are becoming national policy, are you ready to concede that you need our “expertise” as well?
I’m glad to see Bill say this. But when after a century of just the type of abuse we saw today - relentless and cruel, ensnaring our children and intimidating our communities - young Black people said in frustration, anger, and demand for change “defund the police” - so many of you denounced them.

Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show:

What's the *best* ending to a show you've ever seen? Quote/reply etc

If you are a foreign president who commits crimes overseas, America will come get you, arrest you, and lock you up.

But if you are a US president who commits crimes here in the United States, America will give you immunity from prosecution, reelect you, and bribe you with billions of dollars.

Can't help but feel like this is one of the reasons why the Constitution says If a dude in office does an insurrection, don't let that motherfucker hold office again

Bc clearly they cannot be trusted with power & control over the levers of government, & they do not care about democratic constraints

Every statement by an elected Democrat must be measured by whether it concludes with, "And therefore I will . . . ."

Anything less, like the one below, is just punditry masquerading as political leadership.

People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.

An incredibly important thread on a fundamental, structural issue with the current landscape of how to do politics. This is why Dems need to get behind young stars like AOC, Zohran, etc.
I feel like "attention hacking" is most of politics now. The Minnesota aid fraud story is becoming a perfect example.

Recap: In 2022, the Biden DOJ filed the first charges against dozens of fraudsters, many of them Somali-American, who'd fleeced a state food aid program. (1/x)

Hate to say it, but you should no longer trust anything from CBS News. I'm sure there are great reporters there trying to do honest work, but how can we know anymore? If they're willing to kill a Trump-critical 60 Minutes segment at the order of Bari Weiss, it's been over.

I keep saying this but no one is connecting the dots. The war is to satisfy legal preconditions for mass removal *domestically* of Latinos (i.e., suddenly a lot of people are going to be “Venezuelan” for purposes of removal). This is 100% Stephen Miller…oil claim is to make grandpa go along
There is no national security logic that would impel the US to want to do regime change in Venezuela. It's simply not that important. I'm not even sure wag the dog is the right metaphor for what's happening here. Seems like an insane misallocation of US national security assets and attention.
Trump: "Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled ... It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before — Until such time as they return to the USA all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us."

Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

At the same time the NY Times was hyping Hillary Clinton's emails, it had a reporter with emails from Jeffrey Epstein that were highly damaging to Trump.

The more NYT apologists try to minimize this the clearer it becomes that they don't understand why much of the public doesn't trust legacy media.
