Can I leave this blank and pretend I’m wittier than I actually am?
Considered chic by those in the know and wiser in these matters than I am until I have more than three hundred posts here.
The first movie I distinctly remember seeing in the theaters was “An American Tail.” I was four. I even had the soundtrack on cassette.
The first movie I remember seeing at the drive-in was “Willow.”
I really do not remember this with any definition. I could not tell you what i saw at home or in the theaters until i was like 9. And honestly i grew up with drive ins
Friday night BWDR community question:

What was the first movie you remember seeing in a theater? And what do you remember most about the experience?

crush-having is a survival skill. to have a crush is to reject despair and embrace hope. a crush is an imaginative investment in the future. all the most miserable people you know could crush-have their way into contentment if they only knew how

it's important this go as viral as the original story for morale purposes if nothing else. despite the image they project these people are NOT unaccountable. consequences CAN be forced. focused anger and outrage MATTERS.

They know they’re snatching American citizens, and that they’ll have to let them out. The point isn’t deportation- it’s to immiserate Latinos. Ten days is long enough to lose your job, miss your rent, get your kids taken.

As New York cops say, “you can beat the rap, but you can’t beat the ride”

Two years ago today, three anarchists were killed in battle near Bakhmut: Cooper Andrews, Finbar Cafferkey, and Dmitry Petrov.

In this eulogy, we explore the life of Dmitry Petrov, which doubles as a snapshot of two decades of struggle in the post-Soviet world.

Spent too long looking for this specific reply so I can quote it to say that there's no way for me to make a new post on this website right now and hasn't been for almost a month.
I blame the age of my laptop.
Which explains the searching.
It did... and then it locked up my laptop for almost a few minutes because it's just a bit too old. It may be problematic that I'm contemplating a new laptop just to be able to enjoy this completely.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, author of The Gulag Archipelago, has something to say to us today:

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: what would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive..."

I genuinely don't understand how anyone can look at the current moment and think "Abolish ICE" was anything but completely correct.

ICE cannot and should not exist. Period.

Those who seek to oppress us are not invincible.

Whatever power they acquire, whatever technology they employ, they make mistakes, they overlook vulnerabilities.

And they are motivated by bigotry and greed, which are not the most powerful forces in the human spirit.

I love this and I think it's better than what I came up with which was just everyone taking turns.
thinking about how in parts of Rojava they experimented with the idea of "what if everyone's aunts were the cops and they just sorta had guns but also still dealt with mostly everything by just surrounding the offending parties and yelling at them"

anyway, worth remembering

The Israeli military is bombing Gaza again, breaching the ceasefire. Hundreds of people are already reported killed.

This is not because they could not use diplomacy to achieve the goals that made them agree to the ceasefire.

It is because having achieved them, they can now resume the genocide.

Also, my need to always make sure that the person I'm talking to understands me has somehow ended up with me being labeled as "lacking accountability" when things go wrong on the line.
I get dinged at work for this a lot. I've had multiple hour-long plus meetings with my boss about how this holds me back because whenever he brings up promoting me he gets push back because I come across as abrasive because I talk over people or clam up and seem disinterested (yay disassociation).

I am the biggest supporter of this idea. I cannot begin to explain how much I want to see this.
And, no, I will not be wearing any of the hats.
we are going to need better hats.
All I gotta say is if we're gonna be forced to live through the worst excesses and societal ills brought on by the pernicious greed of billionaires, then our Gilded Age 2.0 will need to deal with a new class of radical muckrakers that rival the best the Progressive Era had to offer
