It's not only flatly untrue - it is exactly backward.

And... it would be beyond foolish to cave to a politically weak and failing regime. Convenience now. Shame forever.

Nor is this the end. Desecrated as the body is, a vengeful ghost survives and hovers over it to scare.

If I ever ask you to name something after me, please punch me squarely in the face.

Is this kind of editorial specificity ever demanded on stories? How can a news operation operate with this level of top-down control?
The full Weiss memo is dogshit
-who cares if administration figures “regret” sending people to CECOT
-who cares about the criminal histories of the people we sent to CECOT, we sent them to a torture prison
—who cares about the “debate” over the legality of sending people to a torture prison

Our elected representatives can say no to this madness and we must demand that they do.

By the way, remember this personalistic control of the economy next time somebody in the Trump regime rants about communism.

But the difficulty is this: CBS News isn't the money maker. Warner Brothers is what Ellison wants and he is willing to flush the credibility and ratings of CBS News down the toilet to get that by pleasing Trump.

As consumers, we must use our power to punish CBS for trading the truth for access to power.
Make no mistake, this is competitive authoritarianism. The regime is using the power of the state to coerce the press away from critical coverage. www.nytimes.com/2025/12/21/b...

An interesting point here, I think: "Offense can be refreshing when injected into conformity. But cruelty as the dominant culture repulses most people."

I wish it just stopped at being pathetic, but the fact that it is happening is a serious symptom of democratic decline.

It's really wild to see this data for groups over time because, among other reasons, you see the amount of variation.

Shame on everyone who grovels before this pathetic person.

It was also part of the delusion that pervaded much public commentary after 2024 that the United States had suddenly shifted dramatically the right so we were supposed to reshape our public spaces around this shift.

Reading about this idea and as somebody who thinks it is not a bad instinct from an ethical perspective, it still reveals how much the choice of Bari Weiss to run CBS was a bizarre politically motivated choice, rather than one based on optimizing ratings. Americans don't want to watch this stuff.

Fwiw, one of my students did this design for my political geography class and recovered a positive Harris campaign effect in swing states.

If Congress ever takes up law-making again, I suggest they repeal the ability of the President to designate foreign terrorist organizations.

I often think that Social Dominance Theory is the single best explanation for the conduct of this administration.

I know it seems like Trump is being pummeled today, but fear not, the Supreme Court will surely give him another win soon.

And immigration is 38%. There is no political downside to opposing cruel authoritarianism.
Oof. Trump's handling of economy sinks to 31%.

As Trump's economic policies and reckless, corrupt, and self aggrandizing approach continues to fail for voters, expect more of even his supporters to start asking:

"Where's my 'golden age'"?!?!?!

But on a more general note, even a cursory look at history should reveal to anyone how these "undesirable" immigrants become part of the American success story. Scandinavians were considered undesirable once too.
Wait until he finds out that all the Scandinavians moved to Minnesota and are now the ones trying to let those Somolis in?
