During the set up for my game of @wildwoodsgames.bsky.social's Harvest, we created such a tapestry of relationships I thought it would merit a map. As in any game, we'll see which bonds will float to the top and which will slowly become irrelevant, but it's nice to have a frame of reference.

A reminder that the original Hallowe'en jack o' lanterns date back to 18th century Ireland if not earlier, were based on a shady boozy blacksmith called Stingy Jack who cheated the devil & was trapped between 2 worlds, were carved from turnips and looked like this:

I can’t think of any indie TTRPG designers I know who want to be put up on a pedestal, be turned into some sort of icon by the people who read and play their games. They’re just people, with normal human wants and needs.

If there’s anything specific they want, it’s for you to buy their games.

I wrote my thesis on magic in Middle-earth. This line from Fellowship is one of the fullest pictures of the "mechanics" of magic that we get.
1) There are many spells to accomplish similar things
2) Magic requires time to do properly
3) Counter-spells reverse or stop magic

I am now even more pumped for my campaign of Harvest. I'm almost afraid of getting too excited.

On a less feverish note: this essay also provides a really sussinct way of framing the game. Play to find out 'if you are ready to kill for the island or die for it.' That's exactly how I'll present it.
