What to randomise when you’re randomising
You may have noticed that a common theme in my reviews is that I criticise people’s random tables: Their wilderness generators, their wandering monsters, their weather tables, their treasure …

We have published the following update to our article following an email response from the New York Times.

Trans News Network has a policy against platforming bigotry. As such, we have declined to publish the Times' statement which included blatant transphobia.

in all seriousness people are aggro’ing over increasingly stupid and bad things because they feel useless in the current moment which, to be serious, means you should log off and do more things instead of just screaming at someone

And not paying attention to that metric, but instead hyperfocusing on telling the "right" kinds of "decolonised" stories, is *such* a bougie tell.

Decolonising the Dungeon Crawl---

Like everything else re: decolonisation and TTRPGs discourse, this is a solved problem. There's only metric that matters:

How many creators from the colonised world are participating in and able to make a living from their games?

That's *it*.

Success/failure and life/death are often *not* the most interesting stakes in a given TTRPG session or campaign. How something is done and its consequences can be more interesting!

Session Zeroes can help establish the "themes" of the game, which any player can double down upon in juicy ways.
Reframing my GM mindset from “challenge comes from threatening the PCs’ lives” to “challenge comes from threatening their goals” has made my experience at the table more fun.

The tension can come from the chance of them completing their goals rather than the possibility of death.

this particular inclination — that one must always be Condemning, otherwise one is Endorsing — is dubious but plausible when talking about institutions but patently ridiculous when applied to someone's social media posts. We've learned the hard way that social media is real life but also: Chill out!

Zohran Mamdani, the new mayor of New York City, called President Trump on Saturday to personally object to strikes the U.S. had conducted in Venezuela and to the capture of its leader, Nicolás Maduro. Mamdani accused Trump of violating international law.

This is not the first US imperial atrocity for oil —let’s not exceptionalize it— but wow is is it awful. And the violation of Venezuelans domestically in the name of a sovereign borders they actually dgaf about.

As Aimee Cesaire put it— the price of imperialism is the empire’s own civilization.
