While this might be news to most, it is a fact to the manservants, maids, and chamberlains of his Infinite Summer Palace, the heart of his empire and proof of his endless might. Vast beyond fathoming, the Palace contains an entire city of courtiers, all working to ensure that the King will be pleased… when he returns. In absentia, the question remains: who is really in charge? Is it the Odelisque Admiralty sailing the Flooded Northeast Wing? Is it the Cupbearer's Guild, the royal sin-eaters devouring any traces of poison? Or is it the mad Master of the Hunt, the Ratscrew Kids hiding in the walls, or one of the ten thousand assassins waiting for the King's certainly inevitable return?

If you need to determine the trajectory of a mundane person's life, roll a number of D8s equal to the number of decades they've been alive, and arrange them in order to see how their life occurred, with each dice result representing the tenor of that decade. Each result represents 10 years of their life. Ignore any results which contradict anything established about the character. Ii just warned the manager that a bunch of these corpses were found to be “defective” by inspections, and so I do have to dock the worker pay I took this suggestion (play CBAT), at it seems that combined with docking pay has resulted in a loss of motivation I am going to threaten to fire someone So, turns out I overworked my retail employee, and they bought three guns and tried to kill me solo. Thankfully I just barely survived

When you take a public stand against injustice, roll +PASSION. On a 10+, people listen to you, and the crowd joins your side. On a 7-9, some take heart to your actions, but the authorities lash out. On a 6-, the authorities crush you. When you witness police violence against someone else, roll +STANDING. On a 10+, you have the inner strength to stop this violence, if you choose to. On a 7-9, you must act immediately and without caution, or else all present will know your cowardice. On a 6-, you *cannot* raise your hand to stop the violence, no matter how much you wish you could.

everyone's dealing with the same home game, but of course its fairness is dictated heavily by how much youre paid...
Home Game At the end of each Factory Shift, each player takes the money they have and pays for food and rent. Each healthy character costs $1/day in food. If this isn't paid, that character is now sick. Each sick character costs $1/day in food. If this isn't paid, that character is now dying. Each dying character costs $2/day in food and medicine. If this isn't paid, that character dies. Rent must be paid, if applicable. It costs $5 to make a sick character healthy. It costs $10 to make a dying character healthy. Stickers may be put on the Worker's Home Sheet. During this period you may also access the Shop. Any extra money can be kept on the Home Sheet as savings for the end of the game. Shift Manager Game At the start of the Factory Shift, start a timer. During the Shift, bring completed Exquisite Corpses to the Owner and monitor the mood of the Workers. If Workers have any complaints, you are expected to appease them. Stop the timer when the Shift ends. Then, receive money from the Budget Game and distribute pay amongst the Workers. Each Worker has been promised $5/day. If anyone at the Factory (including you) seems unmotivated, you can ask the Owner for additional resources. These include: A sticker. An advance on their paycheck. A temporary gift of additional pay. A permanent increase in pay. Different music on the speakers. Health Insurance for their family. Life Insurance for their family. If anyone at the Factory is performing poorly, you may choose to do any of the following: Verbally reprimand them. Dock their pay. Ask Hiring to fire them. Budget Game Track the finances of the Factory on the Factory Sheet. Line Item Start of Play Ongoing Account Owner's Starting Capital Worker Pay -$5/day per worker Manager Pay -$7/day per manager Health Insurance -$1 per person covered Life Insurance -$1 per person covered Maintenance -$5/day Security -$5/day Supplies -$2 per utensil, -$1 per 10 sheets Taxes -$1 for each Exquisite Corpse Sold At the end of each day, subtract Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Maintenance, and Taxes from the Factory Account. If the Factory Account is negative, the Factory becomes Bankrupt and the game immediately ends. Retail Game Upon receiving an Exquisite Corpse, judge its quality. Is it ripped, stained, smudged, or otherwise damaged in any way? If so, it is worthless. Then… Does it look like a human being? Does it look complete? Does it look honest? Does it look beautiful? Does it bring joy? Is it better than the last drawing you saw? For each you confidently answer with "yes", gain $2 and give it to the Factory. Then rip the Exquisite Corpse in half.

one player is the owner, one player is the manager, and the remaining 3 players are all workers — and they are ultimately playing very different games
Worker Game During the Factory Shift, arrange yourselves in a line. Taking a piece of paper folded into thirds, the first Worker draws the face of a human being in the top third. During this initial period, the second and third workers fold additional paper. Upon completion, they pass it to the second Worker, who draws the torso of the human being. Upon completion, they pass it to the third worker, who draws the legs of a human being. Then, they hand the illustration to the Manager. The Factory Shift is supposed to last for 15 minutes. At the end of your shift, roll 1D6 for each minute of time worked past 15 minutes (rounding up). For each 6 rolled, you become Sick. If you were already Sick, you are now Dying. If you were already Dying, you are now Dead.

im also really happy with this section on protagonists without a viewpoint, which is a fiendishly difficult concept that i increasingly find myself totally obsessed with during play
Protagonists without a Viewpoint [box] Occasionally Denizens will appear who are just as captivating, if not moreso, than the wizards of the Pact. Companions with narrative arcs of their own, heroes on quests who briefly intersect with the Pact, a demon with a heartbreaking backstory, or other engaging storylines emerging from the chaos of the Orrery. These are beautiful characters, but the Celestial Audience cannot stare directly at them. The limited framework of Time and Engagements means you can only ever see the narratives of these Denizens obliquely, hidden in the margins of the great men that you are fixated on. These special Denizens are no less vulnerable than any others; their lives no less caught in the capacious whims of the Pact. These Denizens can only ever be understood through their relationships with your wizard, but frequently that longing for more is a beautiful and compelling moment in and of itself.

one of my personal sections is the communication tools section, which goes into advice on how to talk to each other and navigate disagreement (this is a portion of it)
Address the role. The wizard, the Keeper, and the player are all different people with different perspectives. When speaking about another player's wizard, make it clear that you're talking about their wizard, not them. If you have a question about rules or setting, address their Keeper role. If you want to check in with someone's emotions, address your fellow players by name. Express perspective. Stressful game events can occur during play, and it's possible to get swept up in the emotions of your Keeper or your wizard. If you find your emotions becoming tangled, lay them out clearly for the rest of the table: "This is what I think. This is what my wizard thinks." Your emotions may still flare up due to someone's in-game actions, but it can help to draw a clear distinction between your wizard's grief and your personal irritation. Extend grace. Trust that all players seek to have an enjoyable and compelling experience together, even if you disagree about how to get there. Tell players when you disagree with them and receive their disagreements gracefully. Ask for the perspective of players who have contributed less than you. Explore the philosophies of others with curiosity. Take breaks. Remind the table to take pauses between months to drink water, eat food, and use the bathroom. If it seems like another player is losing energy, offer them a glass of water or suggest pausing to eat food. Proactively step away when you need to and return when you're ready. Use other communication tools. Players from a shared culture may already have tools for negotiating conflict. Tools like the X-Card or Lines & Veils are popular in many RPG communities. Cultural frameworks around productive disagreement, such as machloket l'shem shamayim, can aid players from shared backgrounds. Bring whatever tools are most effective and find methods to enable each other to share your perspectives.
