As feared, the Chancellor has not raised the financial costs of driving to drivers.

I note that media commentary indicates that to do so would be "political suicide" - which reminds me of my mentor Professor John Adams saying that the alternative was actual suicide - or at least serious

Big news from Wales.

Side road zebra crossings as an option where both roads are 20mph are on their way 🦓

Another tool in the box, but I'd recommend contextual use because they are not a universal solution.

Cycle journeys in London have surged by 43% since 2019, Transport for London (TfL) has revealed.

Here's a chance to say that we measured the likely noise impacts of EVs as far back as 2016. We concluded - choosing our words very carefully - that EVs would likely make road noise "less bad" journals.plos.org/plosone/arti...
A quiet EV upside the FT highlights: less noise.

Cities like Beijing and Shanghai are already seeing calmer, quieter streets—and better sleep—as EV adoption rises.

EVs are notably quieter at low speeds, though tyre noise dominates above ~50 km/h.

Distinguishing between adults' wants and children's needs would be a good step forward in Wandsworth (and other) Council policymaking on the design and management of our streets.
The desires of non-local adults driving are put firmly above the safety of local primary school children walking to school
Even in London where councils have all the powers they need to eliminate pavement parking (and have done since 1978), many councils actively enable pavement driving - this is our walk to school #wandsworth @solveschoolrun.bsky.social @livingstreets.bsky.social @wandsworthls.bsky.social

Primary school children should be able to walk to school safely & independently. Road danger reduction has been raised with our local Labour councillors repeatedly, but it's not a nettle they are willing to grasp. With a little thought & care, we will make our streets safer for everyone.

The most perverse thing about the fuel duty freeze is it has repeatedly - by removing investment in alternatives to the failing model of cars in busy cities - failed to make transport faster, cheaper or easier.

And despite the political debate on it, people still think fuel is too expensive.
Since 2011 the fuel duty freeze has cost the Treasury £133 billion.

This huge amount could have paid for lower train and bus fares, better stations, safer walking, wheeling and cycling and much more!

Expect normal people in all walks of life to believe pseudoscience, paranormal claims, and conspiracy theories. Most people do! But everyone’s different too. One might believe in ghosts, but not Bigfoot, or vice versa. Some people believe a ton such claims, some only believe one or two. Zero is rare
