Ain’t that the truth
If we designed roads for cars in the same way we design bike paths, we'd never have to worry about speeding again. Problem solved.

It appears the stinging award for most 💩 bike path down Leith walk actually caused Edinburgh Council to build something WAY better
Not sure if it’s officially officially open yet as the entrance on Dock Street still has fencing - but the Leith Connections section along Sandport has had all barriers removed and is a JOY to ride!

Want to ride along? 😁

Today’s fun tax tip…

(It’s a similarly daft situation that railways pay tax on fuel/energy but airlines don’t pay any tax on their aviation fuel, a huge hidden subsidy)

Years ago, while watching the incredible transformations of places like Paris, we asked ourselves, “Why are these leaders breaking through the status quo?”

After analyzing eleven cities around the world, we found some answers, and it starts with prioritizing impact over power.

I’m so upset with our govt. A 3 line whip (😮) to stop a brick being put into new buildings. Please don’t let the swifts die
Swifts have declined 70% since 1994.

They fly from Africa to breed here, only to find we've blocked their nest sites.

A £35 swift brick nest box was proposed for all new buildings.

The construction industry lobbied Labour to block it.

Biodiversity sustains life. Labour sustains economic power.

Is it fair that public transport fare payers see annual increases in ticket prices, while costs for people driving remain static?

The purpose of the congestion charge is to reduce traffic, to help buses move freely, clean up the air and make central London’s streets safer. EVs still contribute to congestion, road danger, air pollution and the climate crisis.

My unpopular opinion: those of us advocating for non-car travel need to stop apologetically saying "I know not everybody can cycle!" Obviously not everyone can cycle, but that's also true of driving. I fear we're just giving our opponents' attack lines legitimacy by shouting them out for free

Busy morning painting over unsightly graffiti on Russell’s footpath in Streatham. Great to be joined by Steve Reed MP who picked up a brush and started painting with us.

Very proud of the repainted pigeon even though I had to resort to finger painting due to a lack of fine tip brushes!

Car brand BYD's new SUV ad pokes fun at people walking and cycling, comparing them to Horse & Carts.

It joins a long list of car ads that sell a false promise of convenience and aspiration while punching down at sustainable transport modes.

So I made it a bit more realistic...

I agree with a pay per mile driving charge for EVs.
But a key fact that many are missing is that fuel duty has been frozen since 2010 and petrol is cheaper now than 2 decades ago.
It's about time conventional car drivers actually started paying a fair share too.

Ignore the howls around pay-per-mile, chancellor. We can’t afford not to tax electric cars
The issue of how motoring taxes should change as we decarbonise the economy has been dodged for too long. Car salesmen need to get real
