There is, one study estimated, 5.5 square miles of London used for on-street car parking. Rather than whinge about the massive popularity of a sustainable, healthy form of transport, boroughs could instead just do more to accommodate it.

** Walthamstow people/cycling types **
Can you help a friend track down his bike and that of his son which were taken from outside their house last Sunday, 8 Feb? They were, very cheekily, taken by people who thought they were being freecycled. Any clues - email in the attached text.

Pls share.

More than 250 people die each year in UK drink-drive crashes. Every death leaves a devastated family. Soft drinks are available. Surely no responsible pub needs a drink-driver’s trade? Anyone arguing for a different drink-drive position should meet with a bereaved family and see the lifelong impact.

This is a unremittingly grim tale.
Frankly it should have been an attempted murder charge.
Not even 4 years for almost killing someone in a rage using a vehicle.
The Pogo stick was ordered to be destroyed. Why not the car too which was the actual weapon?

Here in Islington, they've stalled a bit recently after some really welcome LTNs were installed in spite of usual noisy minority noise - hope they will speed up after local elections in May Keep at it !
A quick Bluesky survey for UK folk.

Is your local authority still creating Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs)?

Isn’t it time we changed the language of “sex trafficking”? Instead use “Rape trafficking”. Sex implies consent. There is none. This is rape, coercion and abuse of vulnerable people. Our language should reflect the harm inflicted. Words matter.

Mandelson has long cultivated a reputation as a master PR spinner. In reality, he’s mostly succeeded in repeatedly turning himself into a symbol of corrupt politics.

In the Netherlands, cycling and public transport aren’t competitors—they’re teammates. Invest in one, and the other gets stronger.

Nowhere is this clearer than at railway stations, where every design decision sharpens the bike infrastructure network and makes the door-to-door journey even smoother.

The rise in serious injuries makes the publication of the Mayor’s Vision Zero Action Plan 2 all the more urgent.

We need every tool in the book to reduce danger on London’s roads and provide viable alternatives to driving with safe crossings, bike lanes, speed limits and a huge culture shift.

As in piece, most London collisions with those cycling remain mostly about 'driver error'. To eliminate those, we need enforced 20mph & joined up network of safe cycle routes: cycle tracks, LTNs, crossings, junctions etc. That's what cuts collisions fastest, although rider behaviour also important.

Good luck Laura - am still a total beginner at punctures 🫢
Got a puncture at one of my favourite spots yesterday. A fix with a view. Am now at F1 speed puncture repair levels - in my mind.

The cost:benefit ratio of alternatives is usually vastly higher but we fetishise road schemes. They’re bigger and more glamorous than subsidising a local bus or making a safe cycle route from a commuter town to a city & they don’t satisfy the car lobby’s endless demands for ever more roadspace

Banning cyclists from roads over 25mph — with criminal penalties, even imprisonment — would have been one of the worst laws in history. Active travel saves lives, improves health and cuts congestion. Focus on the real risk: dangerous driving. Cyclists cause under 1% of fatal crashes.

Utter bollocks as usual. My team and I are more productive at home than we ever were in the office.
It really helps work life balance too.

Farage is looking out for billionaire office block owners, not the workers who would be forced to return to them.

Not one of us regrets the life-changing move, as we continue to reap the rewards of a place rich in mobility choices and refreshingly short on cars.
