Our industry has plenty of awards each year, but having recognition from those campaigning for #BetterStreets beats all of them!
Well this was lovely from @londoncycling.bsky.social at the #LCC2025 awards last night.

It really does mean a great deal for me in the push for more travel options in my home city and beyond; and for 2026, I've already got some blog posts forming!

Yes, do hire me. Hugs are optional 🤗
The outstanding @rantyhighwayman.bsky.social AKA Mark Philpotts won a “Take Notice” award. Quite right too. He’s so huggable and also SO good at designing junctions!

A former council transport officer, he’s now working as a consultant, advising and designing. Hire him people! … 11/17

Our @rantyhighwayman.bsky.social out in the sideways rain at lunchtime today practicing what he preaches.

#TreeByBike
Thanks to help from The Lad, we've done #TreeByBike x2 with the little one for Terry-Down-The-Road.

And no, I didn't carry it on the #BananaBike, a little top-heavy!

This is great design and it needs to be everywhere.
Every block needs 2 or 3 loading zones.

📣 Peel Green scheme needs your support 📣

The next stage of consultation for this scheme is happening now, and drivers are objecting to making this area safer for those walking and cycling, because traffic modelling shows it will add 70 seconds to their morning drive.

If you want to know who your city is actually built for, wait for it to snow. The machines get a heated red carpet. The humans get a frozen obstacle course.
This was a choice, not by the person walking but by the decision makers who refuse to prioritize them.

Bike parking right next to the supermarket entrance and cycle lane. Not hidden, not second-class, but prioritised. Want more people to shop by bike? Then make it an easy and accessible option. Convenience drives behavior.

Among other issues with Zipcar's model in London: Having to negotiate individually with 32 boroughs, some of which charged thousands of pounds per car. Meanwhile, Croydon council outsourced much of their employee car fleet to Zipcar and may be a bit screwed. www.londoncentric.media/p/zipcar-lon...
Why Zipcar gave up on London
The car-sharing scheme was hit by rapidly increased costs, a new congestion charge, and a lack of support from councils.

This is the Neude in Utrecht. It spent decades in the late 20th century as a car park before being returned to the people and becoming a vibrant public square once again. Your city could do this too - it’s a political choice.
