This cycle path has resulted in more people cycling on this road, but maintenance is needed otherwise it makes the route weather-dependent for at least some users:
Update on this cycle-lane. Last Thursday, someone came to clear the drains, but left all the leaves & rubbish in place in clumps. So when it rained again, all the shores blocked again.

The problem isn't the leaves; it's the sh1tty design & no maintenance.

An Irish company has begun supplying local authorities in Ireland with Dutch-style entrance kerbs, alongside a range of 1,800 products that the company is marketing as types of "active travel kerbs". Entrance kerbs work in conjunction with other features as part of traffic calming measures to slow motorists as they leave the main carriageway at entrances to minor side streets, private access points such as businesses and at driveways.

A protected cycle route is needed on Westland Row -- bus priority needs to be provided in a different way than the status quo:
Cycling south to north on Westland Row at any time, but especially around rush hour, is *so* dangerous that I’ve had to find a completely different route. When Dublin car drivers have to do things like that, I’ll let them talk shit about cyclists, but not before then

Despite focus on cycling, active travel funding split 60/40 in favour of pedestrian infrastructure
The €360 million per year active travel funding for urban areas, provided via the National Transport Authority, has primarily been allocated to pedestrian infrastructure, the authority has said. The National Transport Authority (NTA) is responsible for allocating the bulk of the funding, while Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) provides the funding for greenways and active travel infrastructure on national roads. The share of the €360m funding allocated via TII in 2025, for example, was…

Why don't bloody cyclists use the cycle-lanes?

This is the new cycle-lane on E Wall Rd. It's like this all the time. This is a common issue with cycle-lanes all across the city. The drainage here was never adequate. Who audits these projects to check if they're constructed correctly?

Designers of protected cycle routes need to take cargo bicycles into account, researchers say
Users of cargo bicycles -- which are seen as having a high potential for replacing car trips -- can be "effectively excluded from protected cycle networks that are designed without consideration for atypical cycles", researchers have said. The researchers also made recommendations to promote e-cargo bike use and to develop parking solutions that keep the bicycles secure. The findings by researchers at Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University, and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) were based on face-to-face and Zoom interviews with 23 cargo bike users across Ireland, as well as an online survey with 203 responses from cargo bike owners on the island of Ireland.

Saw someone using one of these on the greenway and thought it was class. Big "problem" with them is that they're too low to the ground to be used safely with traffic, but that's solved with better infrastructure, and is the same problem I have with recumbents.

Bicycles for people with disbilities scheme gives five-euro return for every euro says charity
A report into a programme that provides bicycles and trikes for people with disabilities, run by children's charity Variety, shows that for every euro the Government invests, it delivers a five-euro return. The Recycle Mobility Programme has provided financial assistance for hundreds of specially adapted mobility bicycles and trikes for children with disabilities who cannot use conventional bicycles. Kevin O'Brien, head of operations at Variety - the Children's Charity of Ireland, told the Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters that the programme it runs to provide accessible bicycles to people with disabilities is both lean in terms of operational costs and sustainable as it "saves bikes from going to landfill."
