“In Utrecht, the bike is not an end in itself. It is a means to create a liveable, healthy, climate-friendly city for all. The success can be admired in the inner city. It is lively and yet quiet at the same time. Here, it's noticeable: Cities aren't loud; only cars are, and they play no role here.”

Ministers say multi-year funding “guaranteed” for  active travel and greenways
-- The move has been welcomed by campaigners who expected a reduction of funding. Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien and Minister of State Seán Canney said that the multi-year funding is "guaranteed" for active travel and greenways at the 2020 rate of €360 million per year until 2030. The recently published National Development Plan Transport Sectoral Plan committed to this funding, but the Minister for Transport, Darragh O’Brien and Minister of State Seán Canney yesterday made the announcement in a press release, calling it "guaranteed funding".

Order for replacement of 1980s Dart trains comes after years of indecision and delay
-- Bureaucratic delays leave "passengers exposed to increasing unreliability at a time of rapid passenger growth", says passenger group. An order of 100 new Dart carriages to replace the original trains has been made six years after Irish Rail’s chief mechanical engineer first recommended it, and long after the 1984 trains became a liability for delays on the network. The news that the order has been made was widely reported uncritically by newspapers and other media websites this morning by copying an embargoed Department of Transport press release which was issued yesterday afternoon.

One section of Dublin City's Dodder Greenway is about to be extended, creating a combined 3km section that will soon be opened from Ringsend to Donnybrook Road. Below is a video of the new section stretching from Fitzwilliam Quay to Londonbridge Road -- thanks to Citizen Wolf for the video (originally posted on his Bluesky account). The route is passable, as shown in the video below, but it may not be accessible at all times or there may be some disruption while construction workers put the finishing touches on the project.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) was to be split into two, with driver training and licensing sections kept under the current structure, and the authority's other main functions, including policy and communications, brought back under the Department of Transport.
