Sad news.
My friend David Dansky has died after suffering from pancreatic cancer for the past year.

David was a stalwart of Cycle Training UK and responsible for training numerous people to ride bikes, and also other instructors.

Condolences to his partner Claire and his family.

RIP David Dansky

@gazza-d.bsky.social is right.

But then of course real safety on the road is not what the official "road safety" industry is interested in.
Well there is no chance of me visiting Ireland again.
This is a victim blaming policy that will do nothing to reduce road danger (probably increase it actually) or KSIs.
All it'll do is reduce the numbers cycling even further. Ireland is not serious about road safety.

Short 🧵from @psimonk.bsky.social and reference to piece by @lauralaker.bsky.social .

The key issue is commitment by politicians to doing the right thing: if they don't really want to do the right transport things, we won't get them!
Excellent post about excellent Cllr @mikehakata.bsky.social who has done amazing things on transport in Haringey. At its heart, this piece speaks to so much of work I do day in, day out for @londoncycling.bsky.social on 'political will'. When you don't get visible public backing from leadership...
“I had to go in and face my colleagues who were saying, ‘Mike, what have you done?’”

Nigel Farage was mentioned 43 times in the Epstein files.

But you don’t see any of the ‘political’ journalists mention this do you?

Instead it’s the usual diatribes against Starmer.

Some in Hackney have suggested resident exemptions to improve support for LTNs but it just confuses the aims, lessens the effectiveness & turns a clear intervention into a complex ‘scheme’ that has to be enforced, leaving nobody happy.
The only thing I would add to this debunking is to acknowledge that it is unusual to provide permits that can be used to bypass filters a certain number of times.

It sends out an odd message. Would have been better to have normal bus gates and fully stand behind the decision.

@carolinerussell.bsky.social is one of the few politicians who "gets" Road Danger Reduction.

HT @psimonk.bsky.social
Just saying @carolinerussell.bsky.social is ace. The effort & genuine care she shows in horrific circumstances like these...
Compare to the endemic inaction at roads like this, the shrugged shoulders at junctions like the ones that bookend this road, despite clear patterns of collisions, the idea...
I met people in Hackney who are calling for safer streets.

Kenworthy Road is a place where people live and children go to school but the roads are still hostile and filled with fast traffic.

Mrs Murphy died here in 2009 and Harry Webb was killed in 2023, and yet nothing has really changed.

How a headline can mislead. standard.co.uk/news/transpo...

A 🧵to show how it might:

A. There are many reasons for bus services in general (and lanes in particular) not being what they might: cycle lanes are not the reason (see the comments by @TfL officers in the piece).

More bike lanes than bus lanes in London as TfL accused of being 'pro-cyclist'
London has 400km of cycle lanes and 300km of bus lanes - despite there being four times more bus passengers than cyclists
