Massive news! Court of Appeal rules Tower Hamlets plan to rip out LTNs unlawful because council would be failing to implement it's own "local implementation plan [LIP] – namely, the way it planned to implement the transport strategy" of Mayor @london.gov.uk. In other words, rogue boroughs can't...

This is naked fascism. This is history repeating. That we have sitting MPs and politicians who would absolutely support this in the UK should be a source of national shame for us too. Time to stand up against those who would sow hate and divide us. We are a country that fights fascism & wins...

'No one cycles in rain/winter' - strangely not something usual anti-cycling suspects say in London these days. 08:52, heavy rain, C6 shot from Holborn Viaduct. More cycles than track can cope with & than motor vehicles. Yet we still are struggling to get enough capacity. @londoncycling.bsky.social

Broadly, the increasing ability of the richest to isolate themselves from the rest of us has hugely distorting impacts & doesn't make for a better planet for the richest or the rest of us. Even flattening the growth in wealth among the richest would be a hug boon to us all, them included...

Important work by @carolinerussell.bsky.social & @london.gov.uk (see the full exchange in reply post below) & @willnorman.co.uk & all. It's not enough to make a road 20mph in theory. Particularly not where there's a lethal pattern & drivers are cutting through area at speed...
A driver doing 50mph in a 20mph limit killed 27 year old Harry Webb two years ago in Kenworthy Rd in Hackney.

Communities rightly remember people killed on roads, treated as race tracks, by people speeding through.

We all need to be clear that speeding is harmful and a risk never worth taking.

It is infuriating that not only is this tone & quality of debate Lords make but also is entirely predictable from a former head of Met police. We have huge numbers of drivers on our streets driving illegally, without any enforcement, and millions nationwide without licence, insurance &/or MOT etc.
“I do not believe that cyclists are a group of people who are more criminal than the rest of society or than any other road users. However, they are less accountable than people who drive buses and cars, and general deterrence theory does not work for them,” said former Met head Lord Hogan-Howe

Quite the thread. Quite the terrifying document. The US' National Security Strategy is openly racist, pro-Putin, anti-democratic, verges on conspiracy theorist and appears to have been dictated to ChatGPT by a 4Chan user with zero understanding of geopolitics. PS far right, Reform etc will love it.
1/ The new US National Security Strategy blames 'undemocratic' European governments for failing to make peace with Russia, takes a pro-Russian position on NATO, reflects white nationalist views on European demographics, and pledges overt support for far-right parties. ⬇️
