Our estimates off DfT data is London's 1.5 million cycled journeys daily now accounts for well over half of all cycle journeys made in England. That's an amazing end-of-year reflection alongside this ace @peterwalker99.bsky.social piece about what London & LCC included is getting so right...

It is infuriating that not only is this tone & quality of debate Lords make but also is entirely predictable from a former head of Met police. We have huge numbers of drivers on our streets driving illegally, without any enforcement, and millions nationwide without licence, insurance &/or MOT etc.
“I do not believe that cyclists are a group of people who are more criminal than the rest of society or than any other road users. However, they are less accountable than people who drive buses and cars, and general deterrence theory does not work for them,” said former Met head Lord Hogan-Howe
“Arrogant” cyclists riding at 70mph are ignoring police and making pavements “as dangerous as the road”, House of Lords told

Quite the thread. Quite the terrifying document. The US' National Security Strategy is openly racist, pro-Putin, anti-democratic, verges on conspiracy theorist and appears to have been dictated to ChatGPT by a 4Chan user with zero understanding of geopolitics. PS far right, Reform etc will love it.
1/ The new US National Security Strategy blames 'undemocratic' European governments for failing to make peace with Russia, takes a pro-Russian position on NATO, reflects white nationalist views on European demographics, and pledges overt support for far-right parties. ⬇️

Zipcar is shutting down its UK operations, basically the only car club that worked in London. Massive kick to anyone who tries to live in capital without owning a car. Having been a customer for 17 years and used Zipvans to move house repeatedly, this is.... very bad! (Zipcar is owned by Avis)

A true mega-city for cycling? London's doing it baby. BUT... outer London... Mayoral boldness... TfL 'business as usual' approach... appropriate funding levels? London still has some real issues and a long way to go. But this is great news!

The Thames & London deserves a lot better. Must read horrific investigation by @andrewkersley.bsky.social for @londonermag.bsky.social into @londonportauth.bsky.social. Lays bare literally 'toxic' culture in org. I've had couple of work encounters w PLA officers. Not a constructive experience IMO.
In August, 25,000 kilograms of ‘toxic’ tar was spilled in the Thames. Why was no-one told?

This is a saga of broken valves, anonymous whistleblowers and hundreds of undisclosed oil spills.

Reform's rhetoric on immigration is hateful, shameful. Seeing Labour effectively follow it almost as much so. Far too many Britons are chosing hate over hope, selfishness over collective society.
