“Laws are threats made by the dominant socioeconomic-ethnic group in a given nation. It’s just the promise of violence that’s enacted and the police are basically an occupying army You know what I mean?.” - D&D NPC from five years ago probably lives in my head more than any other live play moment.

People can’t afford childcare the way previous generations could. Babysitting culture is pretty much gone. Everyone is burnt out, overstimulated, and stretched thin…and that’s exactly why folks end up bringing their kids into places that were never meant for kids in the first place.

"Overthrowing a dictator sounds morally right. No one mourns a tyrant. But international law wasn't built to protect the good, but to restrain the powerful. That's why it prohibits force almost without exception..."
Best thing I’ve read this morning, from a human rights lawyer in Mexico. Translation is in the ALT-text.

People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.

My first big prediction of 2026: Sports and culture (see Kennedy Center) will do more to right authoritarian wrongs in the US than will politics (either domestic or international).
at this point it's especially hard to see how the world cup can take place in the US - there are bound to be large numbers of players who refuse to travel here, let alone the fiasco of trying to sell tickets to fans from other countries

and if that collapses the olympics probably will as well
The world must boycott the World Cup and the Olympics.

It is both the only moral choice and will actually get the attention of these dead-eyed clout demons.

Ghost: wait ... did you say Hamlet?
Hamlet: yes?
Ghost: not Scrooge?
Hamlet: ... no?
Ghost (scrolling increasingly desperately through Google calendar) oh shiii..

Government services aren't businesses. Delivering mail to citizens is something we pay for.

But if these are businesses, you won't believe how much money the military loses.

The USPS faces a tight squeeze. With fewer people using the mail, it’s lost more and more money: $9 billion in the 12 months ending in September alone.

You know, some days I sit and think about how absolutely wild it is that we've built a society where we don't provide a place for people to even sleep at night without having to pay for it, and that we've somehow made it seem like that's normal.

Entering my Luddite era.

Not luddite as anti-technology. Luddite as in desiring to work in harmony and honesty with technology I understand and respect and maintain. Luddite as in fighting against those who warp it into monstrosity and leverage it against humanity and community and the common good.
