Ha, needed some home maintenance done, went searching for recommendations, put in an estimate request to a business that covers basically the whole region... turns out the owner is five minutes walk up the road.

OK NO I HAVE ONE MORE TAKE

Guy Fawkes did not enter parliament with honest intentions he was sneaking into the undercroft and if you want to praise someone who sneaked into parliament may I suggest Emily Wilding Davison thank you.

My other take of the evening is that noiseless / low noise fireworks, and confining the noisy sort to public displays are good things BUT the latter need to come with better accessibility including toilets, seating, and sufficient public transport.

Some people are very self-righteous about the noise from fireworks but uncaring or hostile when people struggle with other noise, and I suspect the difference is that they value dogs more.

(if this does not describe you it is not about you)

I tried to listen to Trevor Noah interview a Gen AI hype man and that guy was like “this is a 4th relationship! It’s magic! It’s not a TOOL.”

My man, *you* are the tool. It’s not fucking magic and if you can’t explain what it does, get the fuck out.

To do #ArtsAccess well you need to be respectfully engaged with your audience, be as consistent and professional as with anything else and understand that accessibility is part of the creative process, not grace and favour. Policy and leadership matter. Include it in your regular marketing.

One part of me has a lot of nuanced and emotionally charged thoughts about this Autism NZ charter school.

The other part of me is still staring at the headline like a goldfish 🐟

I... did not have this on my 2025 bingo card. I did not.

Mele's lead has increased! Still not 100% confirmed but looking pretty clear.
Very pleased to see my city retain Māori wards, elect Kaz Yung (who has worked so hard for this), and NOT elect either the awful transphobe or the dude whose one hardship was "a 2-storey house was built near mine".

Hoping Mele Tonga-Grant's election is confirmed, but it's a 1 vote lead so...

Had two people visit the house today and both left with catfood. (This is not an ongoing offer.)

Second time I've been called "car-brained" for saying not every child can ride a bike to school which is sort of funny given that I cannot drive and my household does not have a car, but also why do so many cyclists object so strongly to the idea some people cannot ride bikes?

TODAY'S TIP: risk is a word for describing possible negative outcomes.

If you want to be more neutral, you can consider words like "likelihood", "chance", and "incidence" and phrasing like "... does not change how likely it is that a child will be autistic / be born with hair / a girl / etc".

Let's remember we aren't free or safe unless we are all free and safe. Leaving people with higher support needs or different disabilities behind in an effort to prove yourself worthy means all of the effort spent fighting for our rights means nothing. We don't win by leaving people behind.
