Despite the Trump administration’s efforts to memory-hole Jan. 6, thousands of videos from the riot live on ProPublica’s website and other places.

Additionally, much of the deleted DOJ database can be found on the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine.

Our new car does this and it throws me into a panic (oh NO there is a CAR and it is FIVE FEET AWAY and my car is gonna throw a SHITFIT about it) and I'm a worse car maneuverer now because it throws off my sense of how close things are to me.
I’m sure there is a whole world of I/O marketing research about this but no one will convince me that it’s safer for me to have a heart attack when my car starts buzzing and bleeping because there’s a shopping cart in the parking space two slots over than it is for me to just wing it.
I kinda love the way my car starts hyperventilating when I'm backing up in a parking lot.

It's like it's yelling, "Holy sh7t! That was close."

I'm totally cool. It's the car that's having a panic attack.

So, hear me out on this, I want my taxpayer dollars going to feeding, hungry people, educating kids, and building better roads. I have no desire to buy Donald Trump an island, & last time I checked, the power of the purse, still belonged to Congress.
"Secretary of State Marco Rubio told lawmakers that recent administration threats against Greenland didn’t signal an imminent invasion and that the goal is to buy the island from Denmark, according to people familiar with the discussions."

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of finding one constructive real world offline thing you can do to use your particular skills in service of fighting fascism as a psychological defense against the constant drumbeat of fuckery
my hot take is that I don't think it's this website specifically that's toxic. the Circumstances are toxic and nobody really knows what to do about it so they come online and scream. and if I may offer an alternative: actually going outside and screaming feels better.

Bari Weiss's Free Press website ran this screed by Matt Taibbi defending his lawsuit against a book author.

But the Free Press apparently never reached out to the author. Even though Weiss spiked that 60 Minutes piece for not reaching out to enough Trump officials www.thefp.com/p/matt-taibb...
Matt Taibbi: To Protect Free Speech, I’m Suing the Man Who Defamed Me
There’s a difference between censorship, which prevents speech, and seeking restitution for a harmful lie already in print. That's why I'm suing the man who defamed me, writes Matt Taibbi.

People who had loved ones on the front lines, who got Long Covid early, who were actively advising the Covid policy response, etc. were all *also* very unlikely to develop sourdough starters or complain abt school closures. It was and is real for a lot of us.
Beginning 2022, I started having arguments with people who didn't experience the loss of a loved one to COVID & associate "lockdown" with sourdough starters & WFH rather than Zoom funerals.

I just had to accept that we did not have a shared reality, nor were they willing to remember.
there’s a thread on reddit right now called “was COVID really that bad?” and it is interesting to read people’s accounts five years out

there seems to be a collective trauma response where people (outside of healthcare workers) don’t remember how many people died

someone called it anticlimactic

If you are willing to yell at your GOP electeds in a good cause, here is one:
Also another reminder that <10 people in Washington - all of whom are Republicans & all of whom keep getting total daily free passes from the media about their cowardice - could end most of the madness tomorrow by simply caucusing with the Democrats & giving them control of both the House & Senate.
Suddenly the special election in TN-07 becomes potentially hugely consequential. It shouldn’t be competitive, but if Democrats steal it, when Greene resigns the Republican majority will be down to 218-216 w a sure Dem seat with no special scheduled in Texas.

Anyone running on a national Democratic platform should include "prosecute Trump and his cronies for all their crimes" as a central part of it.
The lesson of January 6th is that it does absolutely no good to prosecute the the violent foot soldiers if you're not going to prosecute the leaders and hold them accountable for their sedition under the full force of the law.

You absolutely do not have to hand it to Megyn Kelly, but this is a good reminder that everyone at Fox News knows they're shoveling an endless stream of bullshit and lies into the eyes and ears of their audience
Megyn Kelly admits Fox News = State TV: “When I was at Fox, I would’ve known I was supposed to cheerlead this. I turned on Fox and it was like watching Russian propaganda… sorry, I’ve been burned too many times. Trump says he’d be ok with boots on the ground. Whose boots? A lot of us have kids.”

"If you want to know who took all of your money, it's the people with all of the money."

I keep thinking about this post and how it's one of the best, most succinct messages Democrats could use in 2026 campaigns.
If you want to know who took all of your money, it's the people with all of the money. Famously, we know that's people working in child care.
