This is outrageous. 20k bail each? There was no property damage. And it’s a cool bug.

I stand with these bears.

Wow, this is great!

That happened to me, too. Up at 1am in an icy, frozen parking lot in my PJs the night before a job talk. Ugh. I did not get that job.

That is correct

It’s appalling that the President of the United States and all of his advisors together know less about how SNAP works than my students do. Or else they are just lying. And I’m not sure which is worse.
Trump on SNAP: It really puts the country in jeopardy. People who are able bodied who can do their job—they leave their job because they figure they can pick this up because it’s easier—that’s not the purpose of it

There’s a lot of polisci research showing that Democratic & Republican leaders both misjudge their voters to be more conservative than reality. And that was true already a decade ago.
This is not what they actually say. This is what they used to say, in the long ago before times when Shaheen learned to do politics. There is no kumbaya median voter anymore. The question you get knocking doors is not "why can't you all just work together?" it's "why didn't / will you fight harder?
Shaheen: "When I talk to my constituents in New Hampshire, you know what they say to me? They say, 'Why can't you all just work together to address the problems that are facing this country?'"

Same. It took me 2 weeks to hem 4 pairs of black and navy trousers because I had to wait for decent light!

I suspect you now have a cat who sleeps in the bedroom 😂

I still think that the pain of "gov't shutdowns" should be shared by those responsible for negotiating.

I also think that true democracies would not allow core state functions to grind to a halt over budget reconciliations because core functions should be funded from a separate pot.

This. Don’t get me wrong, the whole thing stinks to high heaven. But you can’t attribute the cave only to those who voted yes on the CR.
Assume all the yes and no votes from Dem senators are strategic and not sincere votes. The party caucus made a decision. No way to know how many were in favor. Then the caucus decided who would vote yes and no based on what would protect each of them politically the most. That’s how this works.

Absolutely. I’ve got docs who are 20 years behind on guidelines for ME/CFS. And even more docs who’ve never heard of it. Pretty clear there is a lack of updating going on — and nowhere more clear than when it comes to Black women’s health care of any kind.

JFC. That’s horrific.

Not stupid. And square root of fuck all is exactly the amount.

You will hear the screams of health policy scholars in 3… 2… 1… aaaaaaaaaaaggggghhhhhh

Hmm, interesting too because a lot of wellness grifts (wearables, IV therapy, supplements, etc.) can be paid for with FSA funds. If I'm understanding this, it would mean than wellness grifters are going to be able to make even more money?
I'm the spouse of an air traffic controller and I could not be more livid at the news that Dems might cave. I called and left voicemails for my Dem senators. If my family can hold the fucking line, so can they.

This is massive thread and I don’t agree with all of it, but it’s worth reading. Ellis makes some good points about what seems like a real succession crisis brewing on the right.
I've noticed that there isn't much talk here about the current internecine war that is unfolding on the right, spearheaded in large part by Nick Fuentes, Tucker Carlson, and Candace Owens after the assassination of Charlie Kirk. I know this shit is insane and feels bad. But this is a mistake (1/)

Gellner's comparison of multi-stranded language in pre-scientific communities to single-stranded language in scientific societies helps explain the "post-truth" phenomenon of Trumpism.

As a pre-scientific mode of enforcing community, it highlights how deeply hostility to modernity runs in MAGA.
