As a parent and former educator, I despise packets. Children don’t learn by being handed a stack of worksheets any more than they develop from being handed a tablet just to keep them busy. Research keeps showing that kids learn through relationship, engagement & interaction.

I let him stay up on the contingency that he write me a short paragraph about his favorite Black historical figure. So we stayed up, made hot chocolate, and wrote for about 15 minutes. Then they could chill. It was so funny because everyone wanted in.
