Much of what I record involves changes to streets: a before-and-after of a reconstructed street is relatively easy to capture in images. Shiny new cycling bridges can steal the show, and a new continuous-cycle route perhaps even more so.

This is what is upsetting about Ann Arbor City Council’s push to site dense housing on arterials with Transition and Hub land use categories and cap Residential at three story triplexes. Dense housing near schools and neighborhood parks is as close to transit, but healthier.

This is the vicious cycle that happens in every city that lacks (A) visionary and brave electeds or (B) visionary and brave engineers.
