Excited to get home after a week away from my wonderful wife, but also because I’ll get to go to @aadl.org Tiny Expo!

Descending into London to meet up with my kiddo who’s attending Guildhall and go to the #THFC match today, hopefully I’m not in too much of a zombie state. #COYS, give us a win. Otherwise it’s going to be time to have a very “frank” discussion.

Sounds incredibly familiar, #a2council
“The real problem isn’t that Vision Zero doesn’t work; it’s that many places have adopted that slogan without making any real changes,” said Amy Cohen, who founded @familiesforsafestreets.org. “It has not been implemented with the resources & commitment & courage from legislators that is required.”
Good story on the success of the more dead kids movement. Sure wish the Post's "local transportation reporter" had centered the story around some place a bit more local than Los Angeles, California.

An excellent explanation of why the presentation to Transportation Commission on Nov. 19 was so alarming. The presentation should be retracted and revised to properly align with #a2Council 's affirmed (and re-affirmed) Vision Zero goal. Read to the end of the thread for the call to action.
The @annarborobserver.bsky.social newsletter had a decent summary of the dynamic at the #a2council Transportation Commission meeting last week (mailchi.mp/aaobserver/a... ).

But we need to take some time to talk in detail about why the city's presentation was so damaging and damning... (🧵)

It’s almost as if building bike infrastructure and supporting cycling safety increases ridership. Hmm. #a2council

Drivers slow down more for speed humps than they do for stop signs. Time to put a raised crosswalk at every intersection.

i have a close call WEEKLY! also i shouldn’t have to fear for my life every time i bike down university & packard thursday through saturday bc of drunk undergrads, or avoid reckless and/or drunk gameday out of towners bc traffic & drinking laws are enforced at a shockingly low threshold here

This is dumb. Don't build this. Build real bike and pedestrian infrastructure at grade. This is just car infrastructure disguised as bike and pedestrian infrastructure. #a2council
Plans for pedestrian bridge over Ann Arbor’s Main Street get $1M boost
"It gets us over a third of the way to the $2.8 million needed for this phase of the project," said Cynthia VanRenterghem, Treeline Conservancy executive director for development.

Walking home from the UM W Soccer game last week, and had to cross AA-Saline Rd in the dark around 9:30pm. I hit the beg button for the flashers. I counted 12 cars that went through without slowing down, and another almost hit me WHILE I WAS CROSSING @crashesinannarbor.bsky.social
Remember, whenever you hear that “speed wasn’t a factor” in a deadly crash, what they mean is that the car involved wasn’t technically speeding. At least “not by much.” It presumes that the speed limit wasn’t too high to begin with.

When it comes to death from collisions, SPEED IS ALWAYS a factor.

Interestingly, the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, who had previously opposed the infrastructure, eventually reversed their position and became one of the city’s most vocal cycling proponents—calling protected bike lanes “the way of the future” and a “win–win–win for all users”.

I’m on the train about to depart #Annecy to return to Paris and then to fly back home to #AnnArbor. Annecy is roughly the size of Ann Arbor, and has a great bus system, incredible, complete #bike infrastructure, and an active train station to take you anywhere. Wishing I didn’t have to go home. 😢

2 years of default urban/village 20mph in Wales has resulted in over 1,000 fewer killed or injured. The data shows a 25% reduction in casualties on the 20/30mph roads. Drivers gain with damage risk, crashes and premiums down. Well done Wales. bit.ly/4ppl030
