People complain the city doesn’t plow roads well and #a2council is so out of touch with drivers, so they don’t care

Now with a possible on-street parking ban to do better snow plowing it’s all where could they possibly park and doesn’t council understand people have cars?!

It’s maddening.

A person just crashed their vehicle through check-in at DTW airport. But yeah, moral outrage online is reserved for a person in an ebike riding on the sidewalk, not systemic car violence that has plagued us for nearly a century.

1. This short thread is about the issue that dominates almost every aspect of politics, and causes or exacerbates most of our problems: the extreme wealth of a small number of people. Here’s the amazing thing: almost the entire political class aligns with the ultra-rich against the rest. 🧵1/10

absolutely insane to see Musk feted at Davos as the icon of a boldly "optimistic" future in 2026, as if he hadn't just spent the last year buying elections for fascists, making Nazi salutes, condemning millions in Africa to death, and building "Mechahitler," and a nonconsensual porn/CSAM generator

This is an excellent analogy, because my recollection from grade school is that the pen on the right looks fun and exciting, and then you play with it for a few minutes and realize it's not actually useful for anything and in fact makes some tasks more cumbersome, and never think about it again.
yeah, just out of interest, how many people choose the pen on the right for real work or art? See a lot of them in professional workplaces, do you?

A few weeks after Arends wrote that note, in which she boasted that "Hayner and I have shared goals of being part of the healing of our environment," her pal Jeff gave this doozy of an interview, in which he used a racial slur with an Mlive reporter.

Before she was a 1st Ward candidate, Rebecca Arends was a vocal Jeff Hayner defender, even writing a long email to #a2council defending him as "a devoted father, [and] compassionate neighbor" and arguing that his use of a homophobic slur in a FB post was "none of [Council's] or my business."

The thing that's struck me about the first few weeks of Zohran's mayoralty is how he's really effectively capturing what used to be the GOP's bread and butter moves - cutting regulation on small businesses and free enterprise - as a socialist
the contrast between Zohran and, like, Karen Bass is pretty remarkable. Zohran has a clear vision of a more affordable and sustainable city and forcefully supports pro-housing polices as a key part of that vision.

Meanwhile, Karen Bass doesn’t seem to believe in anything in particular at all

I’ve always felt this way, but this last week, watching the federal government invade my city, watching my neighbors resist it, watching congressional Dems essentially pretend it’s not happening - I have never so keenly felt that Democrats in Congress are profoundly useless and irrelevant
All I want to do is fight this insanity, there are so many people like me, and it feels like most of the actual elected leaders who are supposed to be channeling this desire to resist are sitting on my head scolding me. PUT US IN THE GAME

DC based Dem consultants will neuter a principled-based issue that could help Dems take control of Congress by energizing young folks to register and vote.

It’s all so friggin pathetic.

After the 2020 French Laundry scandal somebody said "LAUNCH GAVIN NEWSOM INTO THE SUN" and like ... nothing that's happened in the intervening years has convinced me we shouldn't
big strong savvy gavin newsom apparently doesn’t even have the wherewithal to stand up to ben “i have never satisfied a woman in my life” shapiro
Only 15 days in and we have a strong contender for most embarrassing headline of the year.

Ben. Shapiro. The guy who can't get his wife wet. The guy who needs an old person to open the pickle jar for him.
