Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.

If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

Thanks to the Illinois’ massive investment in transit, Chicago has a bright transit future, with the dawn coming next year:
—50% increase in every-10-min bus routes to 30 citywide
—8-minute midday headways on rail lines
—24-hour Orange Line service (Red & Blue already have it)

If Elon lives to be 100, he'd need to spend >$60M a day to exhaust $1 trillion. $41,000 every sad, sleepless minute.

SF Muni ridership hit 82% of pre-COVID, with >100% neighborhood ridership compensating for slow but steady downtown recovery. SF's investment in transit priority continues to pay big dividends

NEW: Mississippi Democrats broke the Republican Party's supermajority in the state Senate tonight for the first time since 2011.

It came as Democrats flipped 2 Senate seats and 1 House seat.

“Mississippi just broke the supermajority—and the people have taken back their power,” the party says.

Yes! We need more people to gleefully sign up to lose their battles to win the war for democracy, climate, the Constitution and fairness
I've seen this go by a few times on TikTok now and I have to say, I love this idea. We need a way to convince people to keep running even if they don't win, maybe building the loss into it as a troll move is the secret.

Forget hydrogen or batteries. Just electrify trains like the rest of the world, with simple overhead line that allows efficient engines to pull power direct from source.
Congrats to @caltrain.com, where newly electrified trains are delivering vastly improved service - and rave reviews!
We love good news! 🤭

here is my story about how Zohran's focus on community amid the loneliness epidemic helped young people connect their politics to an organizing infrastructure, that interviewed ZM, and does not use the NYT's framing of "they don't know how to make friends" :-) and also ran 4 days before NYT's lol
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

"Felony Footlong"
Defense tells judge they want to question Lairmore about 'gag gifts' he received from fellow officers after the alleged assault, including a Subway sandwich plush toy and a patch that (unless I misheard) said 'Felony Footlong.'

Prosecutors object. Defense argues they reflect CBP 'state of mind.'

Be like Art Agnos
Just talked to Art Agnos, in great spirits.

Served one term — his support of the Embarcadero Freeway teardown sunk his reelection — but his tenure ages so well.

Pushed for housing, parks and safe space for pedestrians and bicyclists. And the Embarcadero is now his biggest triumph.

Progress on climate, equity and street safety is dependent upon brave policymakers ready to fight for what's right. And a new generation ready to step up to carry on the work at the next election when there's a setback. Because if you're working at the right pace, there will be a setback
A quick explainer on Montreal’s election:

The urbanist Projet Montréal party of outgoing mayor Valérie Plante has lost the election to the opposition Ensemble Montréal.

Projet deserves a *lot* of credit for Montreal’s transformation in the past 10 or 15 years to be more bike/pedestrian-friendly.

All described in a wonderfully accessible manner that sums up to: How do we get more quality housing.
