in a sense it's a corrupted version of Mamdani's (excellent) observation about "the good grammar of civility" deploying "decorum to mask agendas of cruelty" - in their haste to prove the American agenda of cruelty they portray everything as equally bad and miss the worrying escalation

The problem with skipping the whole “manufacturing consent” part it was that without even a vague sense of what this is about, the little spike in support will disappear in about 48 hours. By the middle of the week people will just assume it’s over and get mad if it isn’t.

It's crystal clear: a pending criminal indictment does NOT cure the clear illegality of this attack under int'l law. It violated the UN Charter in just the same way Russia's attack on Ukraine did. And unlike our 1989 Panama invasion, there seems not even a pretense of a threat to Americans there.

I know it’s probably deeply annoying to see Americans go “holy shit, the nakedness of this” after our history of indigenous genocide and global regime change, but what is especially scary about this is that the more recent bullshit alibis at least took some time to drum up and put into place.
