This is a lie. Not a single US petroleum company is going to waste any resources trying to bring Venezuela’s petroleum infrastructure up to 21st century standards because they’ll never recover the expenditures given the low grade petroleum Venezuela has & the cost to refine it.
Trump: "We're going to have our very large United States oil companies go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure and start making money for the country. And we are ready to stage a second and much larger attack if we need to do so."

/4 You see the same thing in the context of due process: the pathological need to denounce crime before stating frankly that our government should obey the law in addressing it.

/3 Now, Maduro IS evil, without apology to the few marginal dipshits I’ll offend by saying so. Lawless thuggery does not magically transform its object into something good. But the cultural expectation to cut our denunciations of our government’s lawlessness with ritual apologia is weak and feeble.

/2 You can measure the spine of a Democrat by whether the ritual denunciation of Maduro comes in the first paragraph or the second or third.

Spineless fear of the ghost of “objectively pro-Saddam” looms over the Democratic responses to this (a phrase for which the vapid totalitarian soul of Andrew Sullivan, apology or no, should burn in Hell forever).

Never rains, but it pours.
Hot water tank that we installed 3 years ago TO THE DAY is leaking.
Still under warranty, and it's a mild winter, so tank God for small favors I guess.

What @zeddary.bsky.social said, with the whole Nobel Peace Prize thing.
Trump's life since May 2nd, 2011, has been entirely about beating Obama.

Underrated factor in all of Trump's military adventures is how much he wants to recreate and surpass the cultural impact of the Bin Laden raid. And it's just never gonna happen because no singular foreign enemy or tyrant other than Hitler has had such a cold-finger grip on the American psyche.

CBS Folds Again, Cancels 60 Minutes Segment on Epstein Cover-up After DOJ Pressure
The Justice Department had a chance to show backbone on Jeffrey Epstein. Instead, it offered opacity, delay, and a reminder that accountability still has a VIP section.

Reminder that Trump recently pardoned a former foreign president for similar drug crimes.
Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

So, we are 5 hours into Operation Forget Epstein, and Maduro has been captured.
Now what?

All, I'm going to say some prayers for the US military personnel involved and for the people of Venuzuela, who have suffered so much, and now have this compounded on top, and then I'm going to bed.
I'll catch you all in the morning in the hope that there is some clarity with the sunrise.
Good night.

Well, I was wrong here.
About the event itself, not about Trump being a posturing coward, that is.
That's the main reason I'm questioning this whole thing as an American operation.
That, and Trump is a posturing coward.
I can't say one way or the other, but I'm not ruling out a military coup.
POSSIBLY a US-assisted coup.

People should not just assume that the people of Venuzuela will be joyful and supportive of our efforts there.
Yes, Maduro is an unpopular thug, but the Venuzuelans love their country as much as anyone else loves theirs.
There will likely be a short-term positive feeling, but if law and order is not

January 3, 2026 at 7:49 AM
What are the odds that our people have been dealing with one or more generals and or legislators in Venuzuela to install a government after we were take Maduro out, if in fact that's what we're doing*?
*it's very possible that's what is happening, but we don't know right now, 0334hrs Caracas time.
January 3, 2026 at 7:34 AM
Yes, this looks like it could be an MH-47. That would be 160th SOAR.
MH-47G and not all that many helicopters caught on video yet. Could be purely a SOCOM show, maybe? Capture or kill Maduro and play the hero as the country descends into chaos?

You do not need to be a fan of Maduro to think that this is both morally abhorrent and world-historically fucking stupid.
Remember how appalled we all were in 2022 when Russia completely unprovoked attacked Ukraine? That is what we’re doing tonight with Venezuela. We are the bad guys here. Everyone who supports this is supporting unprovoked murder. Fuck every last one of them

We don't know much yet, but there is a considerable amount of footage suggesting that power has been cut off in much of Caracas and that U.S. air strikes are sites (possibly Venezuelan military installations) across the country.

I'm sure that others have said this-- This is VERY early in the events that are happening in Caracas, Venuzuela. We don't know what's happening, and information is going to come in in dribs and drabs, and likely at least some of it will be fake or misdirection.
Even then, good people will make
