With Tiny Niece yesterday, we found Pavement Money (a £5 note).

Unless it's an emergency, I told her, Pavement Money is to be redistributed to those who need it most, so we went to Aldi and I let her choose packaged, long-life, non-fridge things for the foodbank box. She ate ALL her dinner later.

"There's a hole in my bucket, my bucket, my bucket, there's a hole in my bucket, my bucket. A-hole."

By adding a simple hyphen we can see that this is a complaint not an observation.

URGENT FUNDRAISER FOR A SEX WORKER DEFENDING HERSELF IN COURT.

Her former partner is trying to sue her for money he gave to her & pursue coercive control. She managed to win anonymity, but we need to stand up against abusive men who target sex workers.

Earlier, a young teen in school uniform was skipping past - literally skipping and dancing on his own - singing along to the music in his headphones.

Aww, I thought, as he bounced away down the path.

Until I recognised the lyrics to "MY NECK, BY BACK".

Still he seemed happy.

It's when he loudly, clearly, sang to himself "SUCK THIS PUSSY JUST LIKE YOU SHOULD" that I realised.

Jeffrey Epstein, a great, great guy. Very innocent and perhaps more innocent than anyone knows. And I had nothing to do with him. But he died like a dog and nobody thought we could do it but we did. They said sir the video will cut out for a few minutes and I said wow. And we'll see what happens

Why did the American audience apparently hear different audio of JD Vance's appearance at the Olympics than the audio heard by the rest of the world?

NBC denies muting. But it's part of overall disturbing developments in the US corporate media world.
The world heard JD Vance being booed at the Olympics. Except for viewers in the US | Bryan Armen Graham
The real risk for American broadcasters is not that dissent will be visible. It is that audiences will start assuming anything they do not show is being hidden

The problem with the Olympics in 2026 is that it has always been an event that draws attention to the United States, and we are too embarrassed by our country right now for that to be comfortable.

Not a new thought but:

The amount of unpaid work a freelance writer expected to do to get a TV show commissioned (or even glanced at) is just unsustainable if you don’t come from a wealthy background or have pre-existing financial security.

We’re missing out on brilliant stories & brilliant people

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Its not a new sentiment but: Fuck Matt Goodwin.

I have family members who'd dearly like to have kids, but can't due to medical stuff. Friends who have spent years trying but it hadnt happened. Multiple miscarriages.

Fuck Goodwin and everyone who supports him.
So as I struggled with miscarriage after miscarriage before having my 🌈 baby, Reform would seriously think I should pay more tax during that agony.

This policy isn’t just a slippery slope to a handmaids tale dystopian future - it’s a deliberate step towards it
