Salary cap circumvention is the one thing you can consistently count on leagues to punish because not only is it cheating, it clearly demonstrates that the owners should be spending more money on players but artificially agreed on a limit well below the players’ actual market value

It's all third spaces, baby. Used to go bowling, used to cover Skynyrd in the garage, used to have a car club. Now we've got Theo Von on in the F-350 on the way home from your 11-hour workday.
Though I'm actually a bit confused on the causation. The idea that American masculinity prevents friendships between men sounds totally plausible to me, but are masculinity norms *that* much worse now than they were in 1990? Something has to explain the huge shift.
