This used to be the main trope of mysteries going back to Holmes.
The police are incompetent, so the detective - who is NOT police and may not even work with them - who has to clean up the mess they made of the investigation.
We lost a lot in the genre as that faded.

I don't disagree that SF are not left and will undermine the left credentials of a coalition. All the more reason the true left parties need to stop self-imolating every time they get anywhere near 10-15 seats. We need to be thinking more than 5 years ahead. We need to kick off a century without FFG
