We're about to witness unprecedented levels of cowardice from our Government.
Senior Govt source says this is an 'evolving situation' and not to expect an official response until the situation becomes clear.

Whenever that may be, I guess.

The news is too stressful. I'm gonna ease the tension by getting stuck back into Stephen King's 'Desperation'. Just at the bit where they get attacked by loads of horrible spiders and scorpions and snakes. Much nicer than the news.

Throw "kidnapping heads of state" onto the pile, sure why not
In the last year we are being told by the people in charge that genocide and CSAM aren't that big a deal to them really. Unsustainable.
there are endless headlines about "grok apologizes" or "grok says it will be fixed" after it generated CSAM using pictures of minors and zero headlines about "grok being shut down" or "musk and xAI in big legal trouble" and I think something fundamental has broken here

Holy shit
Donald Trump has said the United States has taken the President of Venezuela and flown him out of his country.
January 3, 2026 at 9:33 AM
I look forward to our senior politicians unequivocal condemnation of Trump's attacks on Venzuela

AI is the future and you all need to get on board with this specific version of the future or else your just a no good technophobe stick in the mud

I've got my conspiracy board out again, with loads of statements by the Healy Raes posted on it. When you put them back to back it honestly seems like they want the housing crisis to continue indefinitely. Not sure why, or how this makes sense.

Anyway, my next step is to check if they own any land.

Is this the complete goon of a man who used to have an insanely high bar for categorising anything Boris Johnson said as a lie?
January 2, 2026 at 3:36 PM
This is very bad, but it can also write emails if you're feeling a lil bit lazy, so who's to say whether it's a net positive or net negative
so x dot com’s ai generated CSAM and they admitted it may violate US law and … i haven’t seen in anyone in power say much at all or call to stop using the platform

Peggy Hill is an all time top 5 sitcom character for me. She has at least one line in each episode, delivered with such clueless overconfidence, that it couldn't come from any other character on TV
I really do think Peggy is one of the greatest animation, arguably TV in general, characters of all time; it still feels quietly revolutionary to have made her such an egotist and kind of a buffoon in an era where wife and mom characters were almost all bland and sensible

He's trying a bold new strategy of "doing things", I like it
Mayor Mamdani has nullified every executive order issued by Eric Adams after he struck his corrupt bargain with Trump to secure dismissal of the indictment against him.
January 1, 2026 at 11:04 PM
Ha this nails every member of our government (Ireland) other than the independents
Mamdani: For too long, those fluent in the good grammar of civility have deployed decorum to mask agendas of cruelty

Leona Lewis will be played at the funeral anyway
Trump admits to taking more aspirin than his docs recommend: “They say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood, and I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart. I want nice, thin blood pouring through my heart. Does that make sense?”

What could possibly go wrong! (2/6)

I had to write sketches about Darragh as Housing Minister every week through his term, and his track record of total failure delivered with sky high confidence was really something to behold
I see Darragh O'Brien is doing about a good of a job as Minister for Transport as he did as Minister for Housing. This was meant to be the soft assignment lol

For 2026, would like to see genAI masquerading as "local and handmade" get the boot from craft/art fairs and anywhere working makers earn their living, and for progressive movements to stop using it - you didn't need it before, and 100% don't need it now. Walk the walk as well as talking the talk.

Great, next they can ask for a "rules based school system", or a "rules based tax system", or lots of other systems we already have in place
Calling for a “rules-based” immigration system is a “classic left-wing position” for a party that supports the working class, Mary Lou McDonald has said.

Sinn Fein leader contests claim her party is not left wing

"As signs of ageing emerge, Trump responds with defiance"

YES. This is exactly the flavour of mad king shit I want to see

The number one bit of dangerous driving I see every day in Dublin is people running red lights. See so many near misses every morning bringing the kids to school, cars speeding up to catch a light and blasting through 2 or 3 seconds late. This measure would have ended that in an instant.

Micheál Martin's pledge for a renewed focus on road safety didn't even last 24 hours

Becoming a homeowner was a highlight of 2025, but it pains me to reveal that the whole "me buying a house" thing was in fact a hidden camera prank at my expense from the Full Irish Hidden Camera Show. I was upset when Doireann popped up to reveal the cameras but have to admit, they got me real good

Terrifying to see AI being used like this, it was always gonna be the way. Big part of why I refuse to engage with it

Look at the companies making it. Look at the people pushing it. Did you expect it to be regulated to any meaningful degree? Gotta think beyond "best get used to it!" with this stuff
So much of it is just people undressing normal photos of real women without their consent, including young girls. Can we please just stop posting on that extremely creepy platform.
If you want to see what the main use case for AI is to the average consumer, open Twitter, go to the @grok account and click on the "Media" tab

Here are some things I enjoyed this year, not all necessarily made this year:

My Bloody Valentine, The Studio, The Rehearsal, Marty Supreme, From A Low And Quiet Sea, Oasis, We Have Always Lived In A Castle, Neva, Back to the Future in IMAX, It Was Just An Accident, Water From Your Eyes, Andor

Watched the Time on our Hands episode of Only Fools (the one where they find the watch) for the first time in years, and it is absolute insanity they were convinced into making another batch of episodes after that one. An utterly perfect ending that wasn't allowed be an ending.
