Rudy Bridges is younger than the Sitting President of the United States and 29 sitting United States Senators
It’s useful for people of my generation to be reminded that this wasn’t that long ago. Ruby Bridges isn’t just still alive—she’s only 71, not ancient!
65 years ago on Nov. 14, little Ruby Bridges was escorted into an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Norman Rockwell, renowned for blissful depictions of Americana, did this remarkable painting for Look magazine. Printed as a double page, over-size spread, it's his masterpiece.

Honestly, until like the 1970s or 1980s, people have held the attitude that adult men having sex with teenagers is "normal" and "biologically wired." They still believe it, they just learned to stop talking about it openly at some point.
Conservatives when it's a 15 year old in library; "These are children and I can't believe we are letting them read smut like Twilight!!!"

Conservatives when it's a 15 year old sex trafficking victim; "Looks, these people are practically legal. Barely legal even"

Akin to the fallout over Joe Paterno... I, a diehard Jayhawks fan, was often asked if I'd still be a fan of Bill Self/KU if he'd done what Joe/Penn State did.

The answer is absolutely not. No matter the # of awards. You have to have a line, and you don't cross it. Same applies now.
"What if one of YOUR favorite politicians/celebrities/etc is on the list?" Did you all not notice how quickly we dropped Neil Gaiman when we found out about the things he did? Do you know how beloved that guy used to be and how loathed he is now? I think that right there should answer your question.

NEW: ProPublica examined months of Fox News’ coverage and reviewed over 700 videos posted on social media.

The network used five-year-old footage, mislabeled other dates and implied footage from elsewhere was in Portland.
“Riots Raging”: The Misleading Story Fox News Told About Portland Before Trump Sent Troops
After reviewing coverage from the network and hours of social media videos that preceded Trump’s decision, ProPublica found that Fox’s portrayal of “Portland rioters” routinely instigating violence was misleading.

I hate to be a broken record, but this is exactly what happened with Gaza. Palestine was the trial run for institutional capitulation. Some faculty self-censored, some spoke out, some lost their jobs. Universities showed they were willing to crack down on speech, and they're primed to do it again.
As the DEI Crackdown Escalates, Faculty Choose Between Silence and Resistance

While one professor says faculty are “pre-emptively censoring themselves” in response, others are defiant—while another is asking himself, “What would I be willing to lose my job for?” #HigherEd #EDUSky bit.ly/413XhLP

The management of this Home Depot came out with loudspeakers denouncing my pastor and the other assembled clergy members and concerned citizens as "not Godly people" and "not real Christians" which is a heck of an official policy statement to hear from a representative of the Home Depot corporation.
Just learned that my pastor, the sweetest human I ever met, led a vigil protesting Home Depot's open-doors-to-ICE policy on Dia de Muertos, and the Home Depot they were protesting shut their heavy steel security doors to the harmless clergy, something they do not do to actual ICE.

I consistently share this anecdote any time I hear anyone opine on how the poor spend their money then move on to the fact that UBI experiments pretty solidly indicate that poor people overwhelmingly do not do this when you give them money
There's this story about how CS Lewis was out with a friend and stopped to give a vagrant some money. Lewis's friend chided him, saying "you know he's just to buy liquor with it, right?"

Lewis responded, "Well, so was I."
The right's obsession with SNAP recipients buying popsicles is a modern version of a centuries-old tradition of scolding the poor for what they eat. It mimics verbatim Victorian complaints about the poor indulging in tea and sugar, mistaking consumption as a cause of poverty instead of a symptom.
