They take away our freedom
In the name of liberty
Why can't they all just clear off
Why can't they let us be
They make us feel indebted
For saving us from hell
And then they put us through it
It's time the bastards fell

When I got the contract to write a history of concentration camps in 2014, I hoped to keep the US from ending up here. That didn't work out! But now it's critical to understand how much is already in process and the enormity of what's coming. The sooner we act to stop it, the more people we'll save.

they can choose to quit; you don’t have to work for the clampdown
Lyons says ICE agents actually "took care" of 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos when they detained him, before shipping him off to a horrific Texas ICE facility.

He says ICE officers "comforted him" as they chased his dad, put him in their car to play "his favorite music, then took him to McDonalds."

Voter fraud is yet another "issue" that isn't an issue at all. Through countless studies, systematic voter fraud has never been found to exist. Voter suppression is real, though, and there are libraries full of data.
We've got the numbers: Last year we published (in partnership with the @brennancenter.org and @umd-cdce.bsky.social) survey results showing that some 21.3 million Americans could be disenfranchised by the SAVE Act, which the House''ll vote on tomorrow.

Time to send this thing back to its grave.
Millions of Americans Don’t Have Documents Proving Their Citizenship Readily Available
Requiring Americans to prove their citizenship to register to vote would exclude millions of citizens from the political process.

In a major defeat for Mike Johnson, 3 House Republicans bucked their leaders to block legislation that would have restricted Congress' ability to strike down Trump’s tariffs.

The final tally was 214-217, with 3 Republicans joining Democrats in opposition.

Every single president of the United States since Lyndon Baines Johnson has expressed public and private opposition to Israeli annexation of the occupied West Bank, but every single president since LBJ has also greenlit unconditional support while Israel annexes it anyway.

The purpose is to disincentivize investments in vaccine development
NEW: The F.D.A. refused to accept an application from Moderna for its mRNA flu vaccine.

Its reason: The agency did not think Moderna compared the new vaccine to one of the best flu shots available. The company spent $750M+ on a 41,000 person study.

my enduring take here is that it's turtles all the way down in America, until you hit the turtle labeled 'racism'
some of them also talk so much about religion that they end up overlooking the roles of racism and racial hierarchy -- factors that are themselves a major influence on the character of the more barbaric forms of religiosity that exist in the US
So many people willing to blame religion for the US’s ills (and it plays a role there’s no question) but a lot of those same people won’t investigate the role of individualism to the detriment of the collective - which is a related, but more pervasive issue

I do generally think one bad thing about the 17-21 trump administration is that a coalition of reasonably sane republicans and democrats worked to limit the harm as much as possible- thus allowing people to perceive trump as "guy good with economy but who does mean tweets" instead of...a fascist
