Equality is essential for sustainability. The science is clear — people in more-equal societies are more trusting and more likely to protect the environment than are those in unequal, consumer-driven ...

ICE is a reminder that the reason why 15 states once passed laws making it illegal to wear masks while armed was as a direct response to the racist terrorist actions of the Ku Klux Klan.

Rand Paul: "I see not even a hint here of anything aggressive on [Pretti's] part. I don't think this should take months and months. There needs to be a conclusion ... the public needs to know, if I go to a protest and shout something at people, could I be killed?"

The oppression of the mad is baked so deep in our society & that's why it's so deeply embedded in the language. Kudos to everyone making the effort.
I've been trying for a while to remove these from my vocabulary. It sucks that it's hard, both because of their normalization and the reflection on me that I'm still using them.
"Lunatic" is actually one of my sore spots. "Psycho" & "batshit" are pretty sore too. Those are particularly violent. I see "crazy" & "insane" so much I usually have to give it a pass. It all bothers me. It's sanist language for your info, classes the mad as subhuman so we can be brutalized.

Nearly a year ago, Zohran Mamdani confronted Trump “border czar” Tom Homan after ICE took Mahmoud Khalil.

Republicans targeted pro-Palestine students. Then, with no firm pushback, expanded their operations to what we see today.

Mamdani was among the few Democrats who immediately stood against it.
Wow. Watch this from Zohran Mamdani. It looks like the exact "fight" and "conviction" people are hopelessly asking for from the people in charge of the Democratic party:

I gotta say, I never really thought much about Minneapolis, but this kind of makes me want to move there. All sorts of places advertise in NYC to try to convince you to move, but I can’t think of a better sales pitch than “We defend our neighbors against fascists”.
If my followers have been inspired by the fierce resistance the Twin Cities has put up to ICE, you should make it a point to take a trip here (April through October 😬), enjoy the wonderful things MN has to offer and support our small businesses. It continues to be a really tough time for them.

AOC: We all saw the performance Bondi had. She was screaming and crashing, and I think it’s because she knows she is implicated in a massive cover-up to protect a ring of pedophiles through:

Every photo from Minneapolis looks like this. Cops decked out with guns and full tac gear facing off against people in bathrobes, parkas, and sweatpants armed only with whistles and cell phones.

Yet every verified MAGA chode on X dutifully calls it a riot or violent insurrection.

the *how* of Pamela Jo being in possession of Jayapal’s search history should be asked by every reporter immediately
Folks, why did AG Pam Bondi have a list of Rep. Pramila Jayapal's search history?

Is she channeling J. Edgar Hoover?

CNN confirms what MSNBC reported live a few hours ago: DOJ is surveilling Dem lawmakers when they go to the DOJ to search unredacted Epstein files.
CNN: "Another photograph - these are notes AG Bondi brought to the hearing today. This shows a list of Rep. Jayapal's search history. Lawmakers are allowed to go to a DOJ facility to search unredacted files. We learned from this photo that the searches are apparently being tracked & read by the DOJ"

A Reuters photographer captured this image of a page from Pam Bondi's "burn book," which she used to counter any questions from Democratic lawmakers during an unhinged hearing today.

It looks like the DOJ monitored members of Congress’s searches of the unredacted Epstein files.

Just wow.

A federal judge dismissed the DOJ’s efforts to obtain Michigan’s unredacted voter rolls, marking a bruising setback for the department’s sweeping national effort to force states to disclose sensitive voter data.

Michigan is just one of 24 states wrestling with the DOJ's unusual demand.

Not to mention defunding USAID and all the international programs
Would be a valuable study

I think it needs to go beyond just the direct quackery of Trump/RFK/Oz/Bhattacharya/Makary/Høeg/Prasad/Kulldorff

I think it needs to include deaths they caused by pushing people off health insurance, defunding food stamps, & worsening air pollution & the climate crisis
Some doctoral student needs to do a major study calculating how many Americans are being killed by the health quackery of Trump, RFK Jr., Dr. Oz and their co-conspirators.

I can't think of an attorney general ever showing this much open contempt for Congress before.

Not only would most of them think this kind of conduct was beneath them, they'd have known that the Judiciary Committee chair, whatever the party, would never stand for clownish antics like this.
Bondi is now just straight up ignoring questions from Democratic members

"Yes, maybe these rich old men raped children, but they are MUCH richer now, so it all evens out" is Pam Bondi's attitude about the Epstein case and the survivors of his abuse in a nutshell. She is a horrible, shallow person.
Bondi crashes out over Epstein: "The Dow is over 50,000 dollars! I don't know why you're laughing. You're a great stock trader as I hear, Raskin. The Dow is over 50,000 right now. The S&P at almost 7,000, and the Nasdaq smashing records. That's what we should be talking about."

for a fired professor, “the university recorded four of his classes using the existing Panopto camera in the classroom.” having read Foucault is such a burden in this new world
“The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill recently rolled out a new policy that permits university officials to record classes without notifying the instructor. It’s a practice administrators have used in the past to investigate professors but have now formalized in writing.”
UNC Admin Can Now, Officially, Secretly Record Faculty
The new policy prohibits students from recording class without permission but explicitly allows administrators to surveil professors for any “lawful purpose.”
