EU folk saying as I previously did, for the UK to go further will require financial contributions, moves towards freedom of movement, and demonstrating public commitment.

Some sign more UK analysts are understanding this.
Brexit for slow learners. In the words of Theresa May: Brexit means Brexit. Now, it is the turn of the EU to say to the UK: Brexit means Brexit. You made your choice. Live with it. www.ft.com/content/0808...

One thing that gives me some hope is that while Miller et al may dream of American Empire they are also apparently aware that the US has zero appetite for casualties, boots on the ground, or even economic hardship.

There are limits to building Rome with SoF, cruise missiles, and tariffs.

Europe as a whole sold out to the US years back.

Defence, IT, et al.

It will take decades to get it back, if ever whilst they bully & monopolise.

They also know if they lose control of oil & defence the $ becomes essentially worthless and bankrupt them.

Hence the fight to stay in control.
USA is threatening 1) a EU country and 2) regime changes across Europe.

And we are giving contracts to palantir who is in bed with it all.

Are we mad?

Excellent read.

"We either increase our working-age population - or we accept falling living standards. There is no third way out of this."

Precisely. But regrettably not a vote winner.....
Yup - we have a massive issue incoming, and this year’s tipping point will be decisive.

As Arthur Snell pointed out a number of years back in s poddy, it's the "Twilight of the Oiligarchs".

Fossil fuels are becoming unwanted (who needs Venezuelan oil?)

Who needs $dollars if we don't need oil? 🤷‍♂️

Significant risks to the US. Hmmm. How sad.
our number 2 risk might surprise you: overpowered.

the defining technologies of the 21st-century economy run on electrons, and that includes ai.

china has mastered post carbon tech. the united states is ceding its leadership.

in 2026, that divergence will become impossible to ignore.

In a word.
Pathetic
Incredibly awkward EU Commission press conference, with representatives unable and unwilling to answer questions on Greenland.

To the extent they just ghost journalists insisting on the issue. ~AA

I'm going with "they have taken no steps, don't intend to take any steps, and if ofcom tries to enforce any penalties, Musk will laugh until he cries."
Ofcom, which enforces the UK's Online Safety Act, says it is aware of "serious concerns" about Grok undressing people including children on X

“We have made urgent contact with X and xAI to understand what steps they have taken to comply with their legal duties to protect users in the UK," it says

While the final US military operation last weekend might have been under cover of darkness, the build-up to it was out in the open for all to see.

I've constructed some timelines of the immediate build-up covering both the strikes and the supporting actions...

I heard same but never proven.

Presume it would be an utter economic disaster for the US if oil was traded in another currency

Or wasn't traded at all.

All those $$ printed become useless.

Hence their desperation at continuing to try and force everyone else to stick with oil.

There was speculation at the time that for the USA one of Saddam’s most aggravating moves had been three years earlier when he sought and received UN permission to cease trading Iraq’s oil in 🇺🇸$ switch to 🇪🇺€.

I’m not sure if this was ever proven as a cause for war but it can’t have endeared him.

With apologies to the great Mr. Douglass, I've always liked it as "Soap box, ballot box, jury box, and cartridge box. Use in that order."

The United States is immune to the soap box, not interested in the ballot box, and fast running out of jury box. At least Americans like the last box. 🙄
