I’m sorry I just found out that in 1379, as in, 650 years ago, a baby girl was born in Yorkshire and named Diot Coke

If you want kids to read:

-Reopen the closed libraries
-Give them free books
-Sponsor author visits in schools with high % pupil premium or FSM students
-Work on adult literacy

Then Y8s will have a chance of passing this test

An extraordinary discovery was made in Ibiza: a 30-centimeter wooden sculpture representing Hercules. Considering the scarcity of wooden sculptures preserved from the Roman era, this discovery is truly remarkable.
The figure was found in a Roman well that was later reused as a refuse pit. 🧵1/2

So I'm going to watch all the Predator and Alien films. In chronological order according to setting.

Why?

Shut up, that's why.

These days, every time I read anything on TV Tropes I end up sighing with frustration, as there's invariably huge points being missed while relatively minor trivia is blown up out of proportion as world-shaking Canon.

As Terry Pratchett said, we tell little lies to children so that they can accept the big lies they need to swallow to survive.

Justice. Mercy. Duty. That sort of thing.

I like to think your dad would have approved of the Dummy Elephant, @rhi.bsky.social .
Kiddo, like many toddlers, used a dummy. We weren't dead keen on it but it helped her soothe so 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, eventually she got to an age where it felt okay to encourage her, gently, to give it up.

It was about the age she started losing some of her milk teeth.

So obviously I'm loving #hadesii but I can't help but feel that the music isn't being ambitious enough. I like that the instruments cut in and out in accordance with the action but there's more that can be done.

I've had an idea. 🧵

The BBC are accidentally running the subtitles to Mrs Marple over the Mercury Prize, and it’s rather wonderful. A few of lines could plausibly have been written by Jarvis.

What Badenoch (and many, many others) are saying with this is:
1) Are you making money right now?
2) Are you making ME money right now?

They honestly struggle to view life through any other lens than the profits of a minority.
How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.
