Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work.

"Okay, but that's an idea, not an emotion."

“Please take that out of your mouth, it’s not food.”

I cannot stand the "this is a good start" discourse. The Democrats in Congress do not want to abolish ICE. They have proposed a series of bog-standard reforms regurgitated by a think tank. Everyone knows they do not work. The Democrats supporting this do not care. They just want to move on.

this would require seeing the other side as an enemy to be destroyed, which democrats are constitutionally incapable of
Your enemy is vulnerable and on the ropes. The last thing you do now is give them room to re-organize or settle for peace. You must use your maximal power to attack them, keep them on the back foot and fighting each other than reorganizing under limited demands

interesting to note both treatments for alzheimers are infusions that are delivered every 2-4 weeks via IV in the hand, and require both MRI and cognitive tests to monitor. Weird.

realizing that if you don't support free speech for people you disagree with, you don't actually support free speech challenge: impossible

bc what is the point of bringing this up in this context other than to suggest that nobody should care too much about this, harp being bad and wrong and all?
Yeah, this sucks.

It also sucks that Seth Harp is a lab leak truther who included the conspiracy theory in his latest book, “The Fort Bragg Cartel.”

He removed the line from subsequent editions while attacking his critics for being upset about it.
Seth Harp’s reporting on nonclassified information about the U.S.’s attack on Venezuela has led to attacks from Congress on his — and everyone’s — basic First Amendment rights.

one of the many infuriating things about this is that it assumes people are selfish and care more about their own well-being than they care about other people at a time when ordinary people are risking their lives to defend their neighbors
NEW: In this interview, Chuck Schumer describes the "five buckets" Dems think are key to their possibly winning a Senate majority in 2026: housing, "the high price of food [and] food monopolies playing a major role there," electricity, "the high cost of childcare," and health care.
Zero Chucks Left to Give
Chuck Schumer now sees a path back to the majority. Can he manage his way through it?

I can sympathize with wanting to include everything you've learned as a biographer so that your research isn't wasted, but the book I'm reading now goes into *excruciatingly* detailed family histories for every minor figure, which feels more like it's there because it was easy to look up

Beyond how inadequate this response is, how the fuck do you reconcile "This is not who we are" with "That's what he wants"? Does he think everyone's only going to read the part specifically addressed to them?

This is a favorite question to ask. Favorite little moment of kindness in a movie? I'm thinking of Tim Blake Nelson leaving money on the sill after they steal a pie in O Brother.

In the summer of ‘88, I had a job where I installed cell phones into cars. No one has needed that skill in over 30 years.
