If you are a person who works in social media, and your job requires you to manage an account on Twitter/X, please ask your boss, in writing, to verify that you are required as a responsibility of your position to be on a platform that knowingly creates and monetizes child sexual abuse material …

@ Anyone anywhere making a video game in which you ride a horse: horses can swim. Horses are excellent swimmers. Horses can swim in full tack. Horses can swim with a rider on their back. Any moderately trained horse can easily be commanded to cross a calm river or to swim out into a lake. Thank you.

Just a reminder, the greatest living American historian filmmaker, Ken Burns, released a 720 min exploration of every facet of the American revolution using zero generative AI and paying for all of its assets instead of cobbling it from stolen data, then he gave it away for free on PBS this year.
First trailer for Darren Aranofsky's new AI animated series 'On This Day... 1776'

• Tells short narrative stories about the Revolutionary War

• Uses Gen AI tools, including tech made by Google DeepMind

• Has SAG voice actors

The organization carrying out the mass kidnapping and disappearance of children is staffed with sex pests? Imagine my shock.
Here’s How Many ICE and CBP Agents Allegedly Preyed on Children
Apparently the institutions are riddled with accused sex criminals.

Abolish DHS. If you can imagine a world before Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, you can imagine a world without the Department of Homeland Security. My latest at @startribune.com. (gift link)
Perry: Abolish ICE? How about DHS altogether.
"We have models for how to structure federal immigration oversight that doesn't rely on an unaccountable masked secret police force running rampant in our streets," David M. Perry writes.

A good news story: a year old male mountain lion walking around a San Francisco neighborhood was successful tranquilized and relocated to wilderness, in part because the neighborhood helped out and had the right attitude.

Saw a reply to this thread saying "what's cool is all these problems are solved by abolishing ICE" and... no, no they are not.

Abolishing ICE doesn't even abolish CBP. But also the massive data/privacy issues Wyden is talking about have implications far beyond even the worst 3-letter agencies.
For YEARS I've been on the forefront of trying to pass real privacy reforms to stop an agency like Trump's ICE from weaponizing your private data. Now it's happened, but it's not too late to act. If you care about this as much as I do, please let your members of Congress know.

“Are the arts important?” Humanity practiced them long before they had use for science and will practice them long after math is gone. Is the dawn important? Is dusk?

First performance review at new job yesterday and it was basically “10/10 keep doing exactly what you’re doing” which feels pretty great after everything!

This is terrifying.
i am SO excited to learn this tbh
When I was a kid, the New England Aquarium had a seal named Hoover who could talk: he could say a few sentences with a thick Boston accent. Because a talking seal has, to my knowledge, never happened before or since, it sounds made up.

Swear to tits, if you guys do not stop infantilizing yourselves and fictional characters, this "I'm just a widdle bean, I can't handle complex adult topics in my fiction, sex is naughty, I'm gonna go dissociate and watch Bluey" headassery is unacceptable for grown folks, full-stop.

Learning the difference between being a little uncomfortable and being in actual danger is something you HAVE to learn. Possibly have to start speed running it now if you’re planning on surviving the long term.
Important shit that I’m still trying to learn.

As someone in the specific child safety part of tech: Yes. At my previous job, our work seemed to be largely seen as an annoying roadblock to adding more useless widgets or changing the background color on mobile. There are dozens of ways to improve conditions, but many companies just don’t care.
As someone in tech:

It’s possible to make shit safer. A bunch of men in the industry don’t care or don’t think of things they can’t fathom happening to them and usually are the ones in leadership making decisions. It’s infuriating

As screenwriter of the Labubu movie I want to clear up some misconceptions. Yes, technically they do eat human flesh, but only necrotic tissue around wounds. Doctors use them to clean up injuries and promote positive health outcomes. Labubus are humanity’s allies, except for evil Labubus of course
