Legitimately, a lot of it is because children dont have rights the way adults do. I was able to leave on my own and NOT get dragged back because I’d turned 18 inside, and they were afraid to put their hands on me. The shit I witnessed still messes me up to this day. CPTSD for years.

There used to be a group/nonprofit I was affiliated with that spoke out about ”theraputic“ boarding schools and “boot camps,“ but they seem to have disappeared. You’d think there’d be more of that now given how much more these places are in the spotlight lately

They shut mine down finally only after a boy died horribly there. It’s a disgusting industry and the people who work in it should never be able to show their faces in public again as far as i’m concerned

Yeah I walked out of mine with only a sleeping bag on my back and hiked four miles through Missouri countryside to call home and demand they get me a plane ticket or they’d never see me again. Nobody gets out of those places unscathed unfortunately
