Striking to read this and flip through a number of countries in your head to which it might apply:
To be clear: deportations to increase cultural homogeneity is the text book definition of ethnic cleansing. Demands that come even close to this are so far outside any democratic norm and the rule of law. What has happened to a country when this is not condemned in the strongest possible terms?

Hi. I wrote an essay about AI slop: How it feels like an invasive species for the internet. How its boosters describe building a future that’s devoid of craft. How frictionlessness can be nihilistic & how this stuff seems to leach part of our shared humanity out of the world. I hope you'll read it.

That’s the other thing that baffles me about AI and creative writing, actually.

The work IS the joy for me. I don’t want to be able to snap my fingers and have a completed “product.” I want to be transformed by the process. I’m an author but I do this because I enjoy the rigor of being a writer.
In terms of process, I enjoy writing but revising????? Oh, that’s my real kink. A second or third draft???? A fourth???? Making tweaks on my desktop AND my phone???? *moans* I’m a WHORE for revision.

Avoid wearing contacts because they make tear gas worse!

if you're going to a protest today I wish you luck. The only specific thing I will beg of you is this: don't use milk to wash out tear gas or mace. if you see a street medic with milk, yell at them until they throw it out. do not continue to spread lies about emergency medicine.

If anyone needs an example of how corruption can happen in Canada, take a peek at the UCP practices in #alberta #abpoli

They are saying "nothing to see here" because they didn't look (while pretending they did).

Truly the worst kind of politicians: those who refuse transparency & accountability.
Not interviewed by Judge Wyant in a report that’s supposed to probe political interference into AHS
-Health Minister Lagrange
-her chief of staff
-anyone on political side other than Marshall Smith, who left premier’s office last fall
The report commissioned by the Alberta government into allegations of corruption in the health system is out and everyone should read the caveats spelled out by the retired judge at the outset to understand what's in there, and more importantly, what's not. #ableg

Excellent way of visualizing and explaining the choices facing each of us collectively: Will #reconcilation move beyond the symbolic or performative to transformative, impactful change? It's up to we non-Indigenous folks here in #Canada to keep doing the hard work and staying on the path.
September 30th is National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. As we approach this day, how can we avoid symbolic performances of reconciliation and equip ourselves to work toward transformative change? Check out these resources and more on our website: yellowheadinstitute.org. Linked in bio.

"This redesign isn’t a final product, but a new frame to give city council many options to improve service across the city, should they choose to turn up the dial."

Systems reflect Winnipeg city Council choices & priorities. Level of service problems (incl frequency issues) are easily fixed.
Thanks to @mmarginet.bsky.social for clarifying some of the misunderstandings of our new transit system and making it clear that "It doesn’t matter what a city says it wants to be, a city’s vision is shown in what it chooses to budget for." t.ly/ixbKX
Opinion: Funding Transit a necessity
While the new Winnipeg Transit network launched in June 2025 has achieved many of its objectives, it’s important to assess what is and isn’t working in order to see Winnipeg Transit reach its full pot...

We don't need one giant act of heroism. We need millions of small acts of solidarity. Help one person in your community for nothing in return. Then, do it again. And again.

That's the revolution.

The key problem with what Ezra Klein says here is that he fails – or is unwilling – to grapple with the fundamental reality of the political conflict: The movement that dominates today’s Right fully rejects the very idea of “living here with each other” as equals. That’s their defining position.
"All I can say for me in the work I do is that I want to create a space that takes our disagreements seriously, that takes the stakes of them seriously, the consequences for people seriously, but does so without deepening our divisions irreparably. We are going to have to live here with each other"
