We need leaders not in love with money but in love with justice. Not in love with publicity but in love with humanity. Leaders who can subject their particular egos to the pressing urgencies of the great cause of freedom … a time like this demands great leaders.

In Alberta, this happens, sort of, through the Caring Hands program. The Caring Hands program provides a volunteer to families with newborn multiples (twins, triplets, etc) in their home for a few hours per week.

Q.E.D.
Trump is transactional. This isn’t about narcotics, it’s certainly not about “helping the Venezuelan people”. It’s about the $billions in oil money they now plan to extract. And likely, in no small part, to gain leverage in the upcoming NAFTA renegotiations with their largest trading partner.

The last paragraph is chilling to read with today's events in mind. Mr @ereguly.bsky.social totally called it.

Today is meant to be about ten lords a leaping.

Instead we have the USA attacking, invading, and occupying Venezuela over heavy oil reserves. Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his wife have been captured, arrested, and deposed.

It's been hours and I am still discombobulated.

This.
A note for Canadians: export of Venezuelan heavy crude (similar to WCS from Cnd oilsands) was down to 100-200kbpd to Gulf Coast refineries.

In absence of pipeline constraints, today will have little effect on differential between WCS and WTI.

Longer-term, it may depress price of WCS.

This press conference should be a wakeup call to anyone who (still) doesn't think Trump and America represent a clear threat to Canada's sovereignty and independence.

Cuba is clearly next. Then who?

Finally got caught up to this Project Runway Canada episode. That fairisle sweater was b.s. and terrible inspiration. Super fun seeing Christian Siriano on the TV, too.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith needs to stay as far away from civic water & utilities as possible. Her oversight and that of her government has led to deplorable environmental performance, people dying waiting for urgent health treatment, and a near $1B healthcare scandal. (No, we didn't forget.)

My trend this Christmas, has been broken vessels. First a porcelain Santa mug I've had for 30+ years, then a crystal wine glass & now the glass canister for my brown sugar. (I don't count the water main, not my fault.) Three more days of Christmas to go. Feel like I'll be the next broken vessel.

Calgary, our water system is in the RED ZONE. We need your help to conserve water! Ways that you can assist:

-Keep showers short, three minutes or less.
-Flush toilets only when necessary.
-Run dishwashers/laundry only when full

Thank-you, Calgary! These small actions make a big difference.
January 2, 2026 at 5:14 AM
Yup. I'll take that for 2026.

So glad I waited for this moment. Ian Handsomemanthing in those glasses, probably from the Dollar Store. Amazing. And Andrew Phung, looking cool, no matter what. Awesome.
