Just remembered when Paul Graham got a ton of (rightfully) angry replies from the Nigerian Twitter community for saying that he dismisses emails with the word “delve” in them as written by ChatGPT, because the word is often used in Nigerian English

As someone who survived a dysfunctional household, I cannot imagine what the fuck is going on behind closed doors that telling an interviewer "Oh yeah my boss, the President, has the personality of an alcoholic" was not a *big* red flag.
This is probably one of the unhealthiest paragraphs I’ve read in a long time. We might need to start a gofundme to get her therapy.

I really love the part where Susie Wiles just says "I am an enabler" in the Times write-up of the Vanity Fair story.

As the child of alcoholics, this tracks!

something I've always found funny about the neoreactionaries is that they think liberal democracy is unstable and their proposed solution is to return to a system (monarchism) that was so comprehensively displaced by liberal democracy its only remaining adherents are US client states

The usual suspects are trying to drag the Overton Window to permit “deport all Muslims” as acceptable rhetoric.

Consider what should be done to those people, and then drag the Overton Window to encourage that.
A million Muslims live in New York City. We belong here, as does every other New Yorker.

This is vile Islamophobia from the Councilwoman and it has no place in our city.

I’d love to see the DoD try to undo Goldwater-Nichols via executive fiat. Should go great.

Trump doubles down on his Rob Reiner attack: "I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person... He became like a deranged person, Trump Derangement Syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all in any way, shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country."

Trump’s magical skill is that he’s so incoherent almost anyone can believe he agrees with them
a lot of MAGA people have basically an imagined vision of Trump and i think the Reiner post is a good example of them encountering reality for the first time

I’m starting to suspect that our ability to catch spree killers who leave the scene is extremely dependent on a functioning FBI…which we 100% do not have right now.

CBP in particular cannot be reformed. The culture there is and always has been a nightmare.
He hits mandatory retirement age before 2029 so he's called his shot on this (much like dort), but yeah, this didn't come out of the ether in the last 9 months so any civil service institution which inculcates such rank partisanship has to be destroyed, not reformed

In late 2020 a Chinese man called Guan Heng travelled to Xinjiang with our BuzzFeed map of detention facilities to provide ground truth for our work - he provided the first corroborating evidence for many sites.

He escaped to the US - then ICE detained him.

Heng Guan is awaiting an immigration hearing on Monday that could lead to his removal from the U.S. and ultimately land him back in China, according to his lawyer and a New York-based activist group.
