On the occasion of the Heritage Foundation hiring former Polish president Duda, I wrote a brief analysis of its context (will be sent out to @politykainsight.bsky.social subscribers tmrw), and one thing that stuck out to me was how well this move aligns with the WH’s new policy towards Europe

WASHINGTON-The Heritage
Foundation today announced that
former Polish President Andrzej Duda has joined the organization as a Distinguished Visiting Fellow, reflecting Heritage's longstanding work with conservative leaders abroad who believe in a "new Europe" rooted in sovereignty, secure borders, democratic self-government, and the critical responsibility to provide for their national defense.

As a Visiting Fellow, Duda will work on transatlantic security, European defense readiness, democratic resilience, and policy recommendations for the future of
conservative leadership in Europe.

Our broad policy for Europe should prioritize:
• Reestablishing conditions of stability within Europe and strategic stability with Russia;
• Enabling Europe to stand on its own feet and operate as a group of aligned sovereign nations, including by taking primary responsibility for its own defense, without being dominated by any adversarial power;
• Cultivating resistance to Europe's current trajectory within European nations;
• Opening European markets to U.S. goods and services and ensuring fair treatment of U.S. workers and businesses;
• Building up the healthy nations of Central, Eastern, and Southern Europe through commercial ties, weapons sales, political collaboration, and cultural and educational exchanges;
• Ending the perception, and preventing the reality, of NATO as a perpetually expanding alliance; and
• Encouraging Europe to take action to combat mercantilist overcapacity, technological theft, cyber espionage, and other hostile economic practices.

The interoperability of email is very similar to the existence of libraries in that it would be considered a utopian dream if we didn't already have it

Every time someone tells me that interoperable protocols are too complicated for the average person, I point out that they use email and the web.

The goal needs to be to get atproto to the point that it is just "how the internet works" and the details fade into the background like https & smtp.

Today, your most-used interoperable protocols are probably smtp, delivering your email, and https, loading web pages

Interoperability means you can use Gmail and Outlook, or Chrome and Firefox, to access the data that's moving over the same agreed-upon (protocol) rails

ATProto does that for social

Put in this context, Larry Fink’s comments from yesterday’s fireside chat with Musk at Davos sound even more like an advertisement

Larry Fink, World Economic Forum We got one. All we want is peace. As I said, I'm a pretty proud CEO of BlackRock since we went public. The compounding return of Blackrock to our shareholders was 21%. Since Elon took Tesla public, his compounded return is 43%. This is just another advertisement for everybody, especially for Europeans. This is why more citizens should be investing with growth, investing with their countries. Imagine if a lot of pension funds invested with Elon when Tesla went public, and how much we return with all the pension funds that invested side by side with Elon and the growth. So. A spectacular return, there's very few companies, well I don't think there's any other company as large as Tesla today that has that compounded return, so congratulations.

The dinner was hosted by BlackRock CEO Larry Fink as co-chairman of the WEF for all of the major members of the forum along with heads of state and other dignitaries, a person who was invited to it said.
A couple of hundred people were invited to the dinner. Fink ended the dinner before dessert after the heckling incident as people were walking out, one of the sources said.
