I’m going to try to be a better person on here than I was on the other site. More positive, more fun.

It’s not out of the possibility that 60 percent are against ICE by July if he goes after another city an it’s another pisspoor choice.
Something to be said for the Truth Nuke on what to campaign on in Nov, but also u got to consider where trends are going to figure out what opinion will be then. We know most disengaged voters just care about prices, but possible abolish ICE is 55-45 by then. Maybe there's space to push before Nov?
People are waving around 50/50 polling on abolish ICE and in the same poll Trump’s is like 30 points under water on affordability. It’s not at all crazy for professional politicians to think there’s a bigger advantage in talking about the latter!

I have a bad feeling about Barron.
No Catholic priest would be an ICE field office director.

I’m fairly certain that civil rights protestors in the 1960s held “kneel ins” and that they were tsk-tsked in a similar manner.
Protest *outside* all you like. My beef is with entering the church.
Genuine question, because I am not sure how I'd feel about it, but would we look at this any different if they only protested outside like Westboro?

Yet another example of the idiocy of the Supreme Court’s immunity opinion: If Trump invades Greenland, even for the most insane reason (like not winning the Nobel Peace Prize) and against our obvious national interest, it’s an “official act” that can never be held legally accountable

Making his 2nd NBA All-Star appearance... Tyrese Maxey of the 76ers.

Drafted as the 21st pick in 2020 out of Kentucky, Maxey is averaging 30.3 PPG, 4.4 RPG and 6.7 APG for the 76ers this season.

In most of my English classes, we read an excerpt of Halberstam’s “The Children.”
The kids are blown away when they realize 18- and 20 year-olds are purposefully taking a beating for what they believe in.
i think this MLK day the thing to focus on is the strategic focus and tactical brilliance of the civil rights movement and the way it was laser focused on a set of achievable goals

As a former full time journalist: There was a strong strain of people who thought being “objective” meant being contrarian and/or obsessing over Both Sides.
That viewpoint benefited one side while harming the other, and a harmed the other and the nation as a whole.
I read it with an open mind. I once watched her early career with interest. Was she truly a journalistic "contrarian" or just a vacuous climber?

In the intervening period since she left the NYT, I'm now confident in what I believe is the answer.

Vapid. Vacuous. And WAY out of her depth.

Reading the big Bari Weiss piece, all I can think is how it reinforces that she has only one value proposition: aiding the backlash against the democratization of speaking truth to power.

One of the many differences between Trumpism and past mainstream conservative movements and even far-right movements is that Trumpists make minimal to no attempt to claim and use traditional American symbols, aesthetics, and texts. Mostly, it's straight-up monarchical and Nazi messages.

The shadow cabinet idea was a great idea and should have been implemented a year ago. Would have presented an organized, unified response to the chaos, issue by issue, by people with expertise.
Democrats could act like a real opposition party, refusing to validate Trump malfeasance with votes, and setting up a shadow cabinet that regularly communicates how Democrats would be different. But nah.

It’s not only a majority of Democratic voters that hate this approach. US allies see it too.
The incredibly lukewarm Democratic response on Greenland is being noticed in Europe, incidentally.

Chuck Schumer not finding a stronger word than “quixotic” for Trump’s plan to seize Greenland has been name checked to me more than once.

I also think it’s fine to show a preference for some possible candidates over others TWO YEARS before the first primary and that is not, in fact, “attacking Democrats.” Let the primaries do their job.

When someone claims there are X many illegals immigrants, they should be challenged on that.
If there are 20 million, how many have you met? What makes you assume someone is illegal? Have those people hurt you directly?

It’s amazing how this basically aligns with party dominance of state legislatures by a certain in American group of whiny dipshits.
The scale and speed of state censorship of campus really is amazing.
More than half of America's college students attend institutions in states that have passed laws censoring higher education since 2021.
