I think what I'm re-learning today is something I've known for over a year which is that I like Gavin Fien a lot more than the rest of the prospect ranking industrial complex
That is indeed a trade you can make for Mackenzie Gore

I don't know if the Mets are going to extend Peralta, but "no. 2 a year away from FA without much money banked who isn't a Boras or Close client" is probably the single most likely type of player to extend a year out, something which becomes obvious because there's a half-dozen easy comp contracts
Tobias Myers fucking rules. I do hope they have an extension for Peralta

I explained it in greater lengths in the hopes that my followers, many of whom follow me for my insight on the acquisition aspects of particular teams, would learn something interesting, and also secondarily that dumb reply guys like you would leave me alone. Silly me.
Haha. It’s a plainly dumb statement that you had to immediately justify. But sure, go ahead and stand by it.

Brother you learned who Brandon Sproat was 10 seconds ago, pipe down
January 22, 2026 at 3:29 AM
I would not be surprised if each acquiring team preferred the one they got
How would you say the Myers value compares to Sproat? Do they use him as a starter or swingman
January 22, 2026 at 3:26 AM
Glasnow is a fairly obvious comp
Do you have an idea of what that might look like?
January 22, 2026 at 3:20 AM
I think if it’s one year of Peralta the Mets gave up a lot. I think if Peralta is under an extension in the next two months the Mets made out very well
So, this is something of a coup, then? I wasn't super high on Sproat or Jett.
January 22, 2026 at 3:19 AM
I am more sympathetic to this stuff than almost every national writer on this site and this one is even too far for me. They can’t afford Tucker or Bichette huge single checks, sure. Everyone can afford contracts like what a likely Peralta extension will look like.
It's about the future money, not the 8 million this year.

Which is fine. This is the reality of finances for small markets. If you want to change that by giving us a bunch more in revenue sharing, super. But we're getting by pretty nicely as is.
January 22, 2026 at 3:13 AM
Of course trading Peralta is about the money, does anyone actually think he wouldn’t extend again if they paid him appropriately?
January 22, 2026 at 3:08 AM
Jett is probably the biggest fake on a spreadsheet only hit tool guy in the minors right now which you could identify from his chronically low batting average even without having an eye or knowledge of how to integrate analytics
IIRC you mentioned Jett in a post month or so ago about a player who has been coasting on not swinging (ie good eye) but underlying metrics aren’t as good. Could be mistaken but if true, seems like the Mets might have sold (relatively) high on him no? Esp if they can extend Peralta.
January 22, 2026 at 3:06 AM
Both of these were unenthusiastic “well I guess this guy should probably still be on here around there” rankings
Williams and Sproat were (spoiler alert) 41 and 76 on the Top 101, they are also exactly the two guys from the top nine Mets names I’d be most inclined to trade.
January 22, 2026 at 2:59 AM
Jett is a much better prospect than Durbin ever was and has much more power
Brewers fan here. After reading the Mets top 10, are we getting roughly another Caleb Durbin and DL Hall?

if you're going to give Bellinger a structure *that* player friendly why not just sign a better player??????????

Did he do the Dave Stewart and think he was trading for the other Acuña

If Bonds and Clemens had lasted their full 15 years on the ballot they’d have gotten in as the BBWAA voting base change. That’s pretty obviously why the HOF board changed the eligibility rules, specifically to keep them out.
But neiter was bonds.

Its all arbitrary, and i’m guessing something else also.

Idiots the lot of them

The contortion many are making is that he was never suspended, yes
Its not even “all” of them because pettite looks like he might get in next eventually.
January 20, 2026 at 11:00 PM
I do not believe history will look kindly on this voting bloc of writers for deciding that the only use of the character clause should be players explicitly suspended for PED usage

Most of it came from his press availability today!
I have been wondering if it’s the agent out of concerns other team are frustrated.
Dombrowski hasn’t leaked a ton. When he steps in it, it’s usually publicly.
January 20, 2026 at 7:39 PM
while I personally find every detail the Phillies admit and/or leak about the Bichette non-signing to be gleeful, if I was Dave Dombrowski you wouldn’t be able to waterboard any of this shit out of me
