the water thing about genAI is bullshit but the thing where it makes on-demand nudes and CSAM isn't and the thing where it talks you into killing yourself isn't and those seem pretty bad

i am rooting as much as is appropriate for mamdani to be an effective mayor because if he manages it, he will be an important model and national leader for american progressives — one part fiorello la guardia, one part robert la folette
Holy shit it's real

My take on the "real Americans" discourse is that if you want to see the greatest and most representative cross section of real Americans anywhere in the country, pick a random weekday and go to the Costco in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

this is the most incredible interview i’ve ever read. the aei guy tries so hard to get sliwa to trash mamdani and he simply won’t. he also brings up flaco (rip) unprompted.

I think Mamdani has a massively uphill battle to be an effective mayor, but unlike most people we elect here, he seems to realize that.
I think people are underestimating how much Mamdani, even more so than your average elected leftist, see it as his top priority to not be seen as a failed mayor. He is not going to be another Brandon Johnson, I’d wager

The sad thing about this story is that it began with an act of compassion. The mother at the center of it all was obviously unwell and just needed someone to watch her kids. The daycare said no so she did the reasonable thing and just dumped them on their doorstep and drove off. The smart thing 1/

Countries that don’t grant birthright citizenship the way the U.S. currently does (unless and until the Calvinball 6 f%*k that up) have a related but slightly different problem where multiple generations can be born and raised there but still not have full rights.
Do other countries have this weird notion that you’re not a “real” representative of the nation if you live in an urban center? Like do the French say Parisians aren’t really French? Are you considered not a real German if you live in Berlin? Or is this mainly a weird American thing?

It's worth reading the whole interview in full. It basically verifies that the NYT has spent the past decade-plus doubling down on top-down narratives for coverage, getting more intense over time.

Sulzberg personally picked & chose whom the news apparatus would target and whom it would kiss up to.
In this in-depth interview Billie Jean Sweeney — a former editor at The New York Times — details how the paper shifted towards openly promoting anti-trans hatred, why this was directed from the very top, how some staff pushed back and the immense damage done by the NYT legitimizing bigotry.

It’s worth saying out loud that this is Nazi propaganda. They’re not winking and nodding. It’s pure unadulterated lebensraum.
DHS now says it's aiming for 100 million deportations. In an amazing coincidence, there are 104 million Black and Hispanic people living in the U.S. right now.

4 yrs ago today, a family member managed a truly spectacular own goal, splintered his domestic bliss, & in the process, united the world for a day.

On popular request, I shall now recreate the livetweet thread from that day

So gather around children, for this is the tale of The Rice Truck Saga

We might not ever see Stephen Miller swinging from a rope, but we can figure out who this stupid underling is and make the rest of his life a living hell
The cool thing is that you can FOIA the names of the Nazi pricks who are running the DHS Twitter account, and then from there it's pretty trivial to find out every single thing about him, including where he lives

The idea that we need to deport 100 million people - almost one out of every three Americans! - was, a year ago, a deranged claim you’d hear from neo-Nazis to give themselves permission for limitless mass violence. Now it’s coming directly from this horrific agency’s horrific press office

DC Statehood needs to be a Day 1 priority, the one place the Guard aren't being withdrawn is where there is no federalism to protect citizens from presidential overreach. This can never happen again.
