Today, the White House said it would get rid of most of the Department of Education (ED). Everyone has the right to a good education — and we need to protect that right. Tell your Congresspeople we will not let this attack on disability rights continue! autisticadvocacy.org/2025/11/what...

My first piece for @theguardian.com on MBS’s visit to the U.S., seven years after Jamal Khashoggi’s murder.

Trump’s America is beginning to look like MBS’s Saudi Arabia— which Jamal warned me about.

When Vancouver got the Olympics, it spent USD $1.5 billion on a train line from the airport to downtown — a piece of infrastructure that saves commuters and visitors time and money while cutting pollution.

LA did... this
Los Angeles Green-Lights $1.5 Billion Road Improvements Ahead Of 2028 Olympic Games
The project will see 4.4 miles of reconfigurations on the roads around the airport, to make traffic flow easy for everyone.

Watching disabled people around the world mourn Alice is a reminder of the good aspect of the internet. 30 years ago, few people outside of SF would ever have known Alice existed. I never would have met her. The internet connected us all. Let’s honor Alice’s memory by using that power and community.
My social media is wall-to-wall love for the incomparable Alice Wong, and I need more words. What captures sadness and/also affection for a community that knows what's been lost?
Alice could not eat food for years.

And yet at Christmas she would bake cookies and mail them to me—such was her desire to provide care for the people she loved.

My cat has taken up residence on my left arm, so binged ”The Change” because it wasn’t paywalled, only to find out that I have to upgrade my Amazon account to watch series 2.

Instead I’ve decided to fully embrace my middle-ageness & watch Fleetwood Mac videos until my limb is no longer required.

The incredible, indomitable, inspirational Alice Wong has left us.

I'm so grateful to have known her on social media, and so grateful for all the words she shared with us and all the actions she encouraged us into making.

May we live up to her example.

“Finland's income-based speeding fines can be brutal. In 2023, a local multimillionaire was slapped with a €121,000 ($141,650) ticket.”

I had forgotten about this, but it gives me such joy that this system exists somewhere and I need to share.
When you need a break from doomscrolling through Epstein's emails, here's something uplifting: One of Europe's capital cities figured out how to reduce traffic deaths to .... zero. None. Not. A. Single. One.

Huh. Apparently cars don't have to kill people.

Last week my last employer, a writing studio specializing in branding and website content, formally closed its doors.

The handful of staff have been folded into an AI copy generation company.

Originally that company had been created as a software company to support studio staff with eCom writing.
To clarify — writing, journalism, and art jobs make up a relatively small portion of the broader economy, but these are precisely the jobs we're losing as firms try to cut costs and cut out humans. Artists, journalists, illustrators.
Then explain why I lost the vast majority of my cybersecurity writing gigs since 2023, @bcmerchant.bsky.social

Kid, seeing a photo of their dad: Wow, you’re so old your baby photo is in black and white.

My partner, age 55: What? I’m not that old.

Kid: Honestly I’m surprised it’s not just a blank sheet of paper. I didn’t think photos existed back then.

My insurer declined to disclose my current plan’s premium cost for 2026 when they sent letters out last month.

Instead they said I’ll find out when I get my January invoice next month.

Just want to say that Long Covid had my digestive system in shambles until Zepbound. It has been such a significant quality of life difference. If your Long Covid has a digestive element to it - I highly recommend a GLP-1.
Y'all, the hospital where I had my surgery is running trials to see if GLP-1 medications can help people suffering from long COVID. It's open to any person with documented long COVID who lives in the US.

Please pass it on!
