I’ve been saying this for years: Traditions are made up. As a grown-up you can make your own.

Things are hard. There is no need to make your life more difficult by continuing traditions that don’t genuinely feel good, whether that be what you eat, what you do or who you spend time with.
My friends and I have gone five straight years of never serving turkey at Canadian Thanksgiving, American Thanksgiving, or Christmas. We served char siu, prime rib, lobster, lamb, roast duck, and even a grocery store rotisserie chicken. Lots of options. It is fine to start your own traditions.

”Any big changes (to allow Oregon medical providers to defer to the West Coast Health Alliance’s recommendations rather than the CDC’s vaccine advisory panel) would have to take place in 2027 or during a (2026) special session.”

Partner stopped at the grocery store around opening. It was not busy, but most folks they saw masked.

Got to the dr office for bloodwork. They were the only person masked.

Glad to see others mask in public, but continually maddening that masking in healthcare settings isn’t a thing in 2025.

When he inevitably says he didn’t mean this the way he wrote it, we must continue to push back that not knowing what “national socialist” means in the year of our lord 2025 means you’re too goddamn ignorant to make decisions for other people.
Disagreement on policy is welcome and reasonable, but calling me a Nazi for cosponsoring an ordinance to ban price-fixing is completely unacceptable. Councilor Ryan edited his post, but did not disclose the edit and explain the nature of the substantive change, so it’s here for posterity.

Trump’s America is beginning to look like MBS’s Saudi Arabia— which Jamal warned me about.

Watching disabled people around the world mourn Alice is a reminder of the good aspect of the internet. 30 years ago, few people outside of SF would ever have known Alice existed. I never would have met her. The internet connected us all. Let’s honor Alice’s memory by using that power and community.
My social media is wall-to-wall love for the incomparable Alice Wong, and I need more words. What captures sadness and/also affection for a community that knows what's been lost?
Alice could not eat food for years.

And yet at Christmas she would bake cookies and mail them to me—such was her desire to provide care for the people she loved.

My cat has taken up residence on my left arm, so binged ”The Change” because it wasn’t paywalled, only to find out that I have to upgrade my Amazon account to watch series 2.

Instead I’ve decided to fully embrace my middle-ageness & watch Fleetwood Mac videos until my limb is no longer required.

“Finland's income-based speeding fines can be brutal. In 2023, a local multimillionaire was slapped with a €121,000 ($141,650) ticket.”

I had forgotten about this, but it gives me such joy that this system exists somewhere and I need to share.
When you need a break from doomscrolling through Epstein's emails, here's something uplifting: One of Europe's capital cities figured out how to reduce traffic deaths to .... zero. None. Not. A. Single. One.
