I remain ever hopeful this is not true, in the same way I feel about people like Fred Rogers. I believe in the existence of good people and that they can even be successful celebrities.

Seems like if a staffer has control over a social media account of the President of the United States, any sort of oopsie-daisy is a fireable offense. So who was fired? And since it was erroneous, why did it take hours to rectify it? It's ... it's as if it wasn't a staffer or an error at all!

Are female economists treated differently than males in academic seminars?

These authors wanted to know whether gender shapes how scholars are treated when presenting research.

So they built a massive dataset of 2,000+ economics seminars, job talks, and conference presentations from 2019–2023...

I encourage you to consider that the @cato.org is right about this
The US immigrant population generated more in taxes than they received in benefits from all levels of government every year from 1994 to 2023.

The Cato study provides the first-ever 30-year analysis of the fiscal effects of immigration on government budgets.

ICE hasn't stopped brutalizing people or shredding the Constitution, it's just that corporate media turned the camera as the call for action got too loud and the Democrats stepped in and made sure the issue got changed.

If you sit for a second, you'll recognize that's what happened with BLM, too.

Trump: "These people were brought to our country to vote, & they vote illegally. The Republicans should say, we should take over the voting in at least 15 places. The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting. We have states that I won that show I didn't win. You're gonna see something in Georgia"

Context not everyone has: this building is one of the major mental health care community access points for New Hampshire, the greater mental health center of Nashua

There are a lot of my patients and colleagues inside those buildings in that area

This likely is a statewide crisis for New Hampshire
Can 2026 just STOP? I’m told the whole building is basically gone. I will know people who have been hurt, I just don’t know who yet. …Fuck. *rests forehead on desk tapping lightly* Fuck.

The irony of those saying Billie Eilish should stick to music, Mark Ruffalo to acting, Gary Lineker to football is that their loudest critics aren't politicians. So these artists who use their huge platforms to highlight injustice should leave political opinions to basement incel keyboard shaggers?

Someone said protests don’t belong in church and it took every ounce of self-censure within me not to say “Deborah you are literally a Protestant.”

Today is the 40th anniversary of the space shuttle Challenger disaster, and I still vividly remember being confused and traumatized alongside my classmates.

I think about these kids being terrorized by ICE, and I think that trauma will also stay with them well into adulthood. It's unforgivable.
Something important to understand about ICE thugs in the Twin Cities is that they're harassing innocent kids and parents at bus stops and schools every single day. Even after the Pretti shooting. It's terrorism.

It's similar to policing. Voters love "cops stopping criminals"; they don't love "cops brutalizing minorities and the poor"

But our current system means you don't get one without the other, so when ppl hear "Defund the Police" they just reflexively vote for brutality

It sucks
I think both calling for abolishing ICE is fine and casting what ICE is doing as inherent to immigration enforcement is an extremely bad idea because if you frame the choice as "open borders or this" lots of people will choose this. It also just isn't true, Canada has borders and IRCC don't do this

The UK version of “Project 2025” by the Reform party includes a British ICE, a concentration camp for 24,000 people, mass surveillance and withdrawing from refugee, anti-torture and anti-trafficking conventions.

It’s on their website. That’s how comfortable fascists are in the UK today.

It was predictable, a strategic move to calm tensions so they can continue their fascist bullshit in a quieter way, and what happens next depends on what WE do next. Americans need to not back off, they need to not settle back into relative apathy.

I will not speak my prediction into existence.
