“When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross” goes both ways. Calling the U.S. a irredeemable hell hole cedes ideological ownership of American identity to the fascists. The U.S. is imperfect but not irredeemable and they don’t get to decide who is American.
America is an ideal, a promise it has sometimes strived for but has always fallen short of. Even if I recognize that failure, I believe in the promise, and I’m not handing over that promise to a bunch of fucking fascists.

The Epstein story gets a something that is tearing at the heart of the electorate: elite impunity. The idea that wealthy and powerful people can do terrible things *at scale* and face no consequences for them. Whatever political party actually stops it could rule the country for a generation.

People really need to stop framing it is a question of getting more evidence. I mean, sure, that too. But we know. We all know. The president of the United States raped children. Say that. This is not what they actually say. This is what they used to say, in the long ago before times when Shaheen learned to do politics. There is no kumbaya median voter anymore. The question you get knocking doors is not "why can't you all just work together?" it's "why didn't / will you fight harder?

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.
