My top 5 movie genres:

- You can kind of tell it's based on a stage play
- Writing is sexy
- Period piece w/ absurd costume budget
- Silly people being very earnest
- Still arguing about what it meant 3 hrs after the credits roll
What are your top 5 movie genres? Mine are:

-Beautiful people singing on Greek islands
-Girl with really long hair rediscovers long lost love
-Girl uses brains to show up mediocre ex-boyfriend
-People from very different cultures fall in love and navigate family, hilariously
-Just witchy things
What are your top 5 movie genres? Mine are:

- Roaring rampage of revenge
- Reluctantly, I must resume my life of violence
- On reflection, the risk assessment on our giant monster facility and/or attraction could have been more thorough
- Girl survives
- Crime but make it quirky

Today’s state violence and copaganda out of Broadview show that we can’t expect material conditions to improve much with the removal of CBP from the city.

If you’re also mad, come make and distribute some whistle kits about it

I just donated. You should too. It's egregious that this administration wants to send people back to the brutal Ortega regime.

A lot of people are going to walk away from the Ghislaine Maxwell coverage with the impression that our prison system isn’t punitive enough but I’d say it highlights how most everyone else is treated with *deliberate* cruelty.

A number of local Chicago reporters/journalists have truly distinguished themselves over the past few weeks and I am so very grateful. It also shows that reporting is a public service when done well. Thank you all.

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

Today, @brianstraw.bsky.social and five others will be arraigned at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse. The government is trying to suppress our collective courage to stand up for our neighbors and democracy itself. Please consider joining me in supporting his legal defense.

If you don’t know, immigration attorneys have been sounding alarms that ICE appears to be using frequent shuffles between detention centers to exhaust migrant detainees, separate them family and their attorneys, wear them down and get them to sign “voluntary” deport papers.

It’s a torture tactic.

Friendly reminder that dishwashers made after 1995 or so are so water and energy efficient that even if you ran them twice fully loaded it would still use less water than handwashing the same load.

So many "green" things feel like sacrifices. Dishwashers are not one of them.

Donate money to a food bank or food pantry, then give your extra cans and boxes to a mutual aid org, love fridge, free pantry, etc. in your neighborhood.

Money in formal channels takes advantage of scale, and whatever you can spare in informal channels reaches more neighbors.
spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

It's been rumored for a bit they would leave mid-November. It's not the weather, just the natural lifespan of a ~225 person operation.

Before Border Patrol arrived, ICE was still here. They were smashing cars to pull people out of them, taking people from court and check-in appointments, etc.
Bovino left LA to come to Chicago and it's not like LA saw immigration operations stop - just less showboating from his crew. So even if these circulating rumors over the last week turn out real, I'm pessimistic about how much change to expect on the ground.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

Following up on this. This remains a ‘cave is minutes or hours away’ situation. If you want to impact how this plays out you need to contact senators literally now. I want to add additional points of context. What I’m relaying is what I’ve picked up from highly reliable sources.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.
