I didn't get an answer, so let's crowdsource

How do you effectively make the world accessible to people with disabilities while making sure people who don't need it don't take advantage but without denying access to people who need it?

i think the answer is "stop being a cop about it."
so how do you solve the problem without denying access to people who need it?

Can you imagine having a magic wand made of money and just NOT?

Turns out, austerity means we can’t have nice things
You can like or dislike fireworks, enjoy the post-show exodus from downtown or abhor the crowds, but the Celebration of Light is probably the biggest event that celebrates Vancouver's Vancouverness.

Traditions die, but this one hits bigger than most.

Organizers of a public fireworks festival, which has brought millions of people to Vancouver's English Bay over the past three decades, says it can’t go ahead without long-term government and private-...

fuck you, ABC. austerity-ass budget that makes services more expensive and writes police a blank cheque. a "gift" to property owners in an amount they won't even notice at the expense of basic maintenance for utilities and spaces that serve the entire city
Vancouver's 2026 draft budget has PASSED.

Approved on a 7-4 vote on party lines, with ABC in favour and councillors Fry/Bligh/Orr/Maloney opposed.

Property tax freeze, $50 million more for VPD, and cuts to Arts, Culture, Planning and Sustainability departments, among others.

Full story to come.

It doesn't matter how you feel about her work, whether it was a formative touchstone or not. If you still buy the merch or hype up Harry Potter, you are complicit.

Anyone who cares about Vancouver, whether you share Sean’s politics or not, should read through his multiple threads of citizens’ statements; folks range widely in age and income bracket but not in sentiment. ABC passing this budget will alienate the entire city.
Good morning. It’s budget day. I’m going to try and live skeet the proceedings so speakers know where we are at. First is staff presentation. 91 slides.

There’s no such thing as the “genuinely disabled”

Disability is dynamic

Some disabilities are invisible. Some change day to day

You won’t always know a person is disabled unless they tell you

It’s a minority group you can join at any time, not a moral failing.
