Surviving fascism depends on effective resistance. But can civilians defeat fascists armed with anything from drones to nukes? The answer is yes. This growing collection of threads explains what you can do, based on a decade of research. If you doubt that all this is necessary read the thread below:
🧵A thread to help Americans understand what they are up against. I'm an American citizen who grew up in GA as a person with dark skin, and who has lived in Europe for some time. Anglo-Saxon white supremacy and European-style fascism share a common history. But I have also observed key differences:
The Anglo-Saxon white supremacy Americans are familiar with has merged with Continental-European fascism. This takes any traditional American resistance strategies out of the picture. Passive damage mitigation, protests, political organizing, hoping to just ride it out, will not work. 1/

The former U.S. transportation secretary said the Democratic Party should focus more on issues gripping the country, such as health care and housing affordability.

So a plea to my followers: if you can (and I know there are many who can't, for many reasons, no need to apologise/explain), would you consider donating blood? Especially if you've never done it before. I will feel less upset about being removed from the donor pool if I can recruit some new donors!

I did a book event recently where the organisers told me to talk about my experiences but “not be too negative”, Because apparently that would reflect badly on me. Which probably says more about the publishing industry then it does about me
You’ll have to forgive me for repeatedly sharing this but I‘m glad to have had the opportunity to write honestly and openly about my experiences in publishing and how my local librarian has helped me feel supported when no-one in publishing has:
"I did not have the good fortune of living with parents who loved reading or in a household filled with books, but I did have an excellent local library...now that I am an author, it is once again librarians who are helping me to flourish in the absence of other support" (scroll down to read my bit)

You're going to hand funding to Nazis and be shocked when they do awful things. Because your desire for a redemption narrative is trumping basic common sense.
In order to move men, we have to welcome folks who have done things in the past we abhor. We have to allow folks to redeem themselves.

It’s sometimes uncomfortable, but it’s the only way we can win moving forward.

The math doesn’t math without more men.

They don't leave because it's where there is the most money to be had from the collective value generated by human beings, and despite what they insist, they don't generate wealth; they collect it.
And we knew this. This wasn't speculation. We studied it, we had the talking points. We trained volunteers to explain this to people. It's not a surprise. Rich people don't flee places with good quality of life when we increase the quality of life. They might try to cheat us, but they don't leave.

I (an atheist) gave a talk at a Humanist event once where I pointed this out, only to be heckled disgracefully by Richard Dawkins. The audience took my side. It’s such an obviously ridiculous, easily refuted position to take.
