🧵A thread to help Americans understand what they are up against. I'm an American citizen who grew up in GA as a person with dark skin, and who has lived in Europe for some time. Anglo-Saxon white supremacy and European-style fascism share a common history. But I have also observed key differences:
The Anglo-Saxon white supremacy Americans are familiar with has merged with Continental-European fascism. This takes any traditional American resistance strategies out of the picture. Passive damage mitigation, protests, political organizing, hoping to just ride it out, will not work. 1/
Surviving fascism depends on effective resistance. But can civilians defeat fascists armed with anything from drones to nukes? The answer is yes. So a plea to my followers: if you can (and I know there are many who can't, for many reasons, no need to apologise/explain), would you consider donating blood? Especially if you've never done it before. I will feel less upset about being removed from the donor pool if I can recruit some new donors!

You’ll have to forgive me for repeatedly sharing this but I‘m glad to have had the opportunity to write honestly and openly about my experiences in publishing and how my local librarian has helped me feel supported when no-one in publishing has:

In order to move men, we have to welcome folks who have done things in the past we abhor. We have to allow folks to redeem themselves.

I’ve also been heckled by Robert Winston. Two great white scientists who felt the need to challenge, rudely, in public, what I was saying because I, a mere science teacher, dared suggest they were wrong about things.
I (an atheist) gave a talk at a Humanist event once where I pointed this out, only to be heckled disgracefully by Richard Dawkins. The audience took my side. It’s such an obviously ridiculous, easily refuted position to take.
